I've got a pair of these beauties (I'm the only owner) that are in perfect condition. Where / how can I find out how much they are worth. I'm in a condo so these are just too much speaker.:)

Welcome to the forum. This site has some completed ebay auctions.
www.polksda.com
Not up to date. They go for anything between 1,200 and 2,500. It all depends on condition and if there's enough interest close to the sale, since these are rarely shipped.

Thanx for the info & welcome. I was thinking about $1000. So, maybe I might decide to ask a bit more. yea, I don't think shipping them is going to be an option, so proximity does become an issue. Again, thanks Ricardo!

So, any other Polks? Why not hang out around here? This is a great forum with lots of knowledge and helpful people. We can be a bit of a PITA with newbies sometimes, but those that put up with us become part of a great group of audio nuts.

Welcome to the site. You should know you are selling the speaker that most people here worship like a god. Get your posts up to 25 and you can post them in the forsale section. They might last a day (if they last past this thread). I would sell my first born for a set if I had the room or a wife who would not bitch about my speakers taking up too much room.;)

What is the value of the POLK 1.2 TL's?? Good question. As an owner of a nice pair, my ears tell me they are worth at least $10,000. Of course, you can't get that on the "used" market, but I am only telling you what I think. I have heard many a fine speaker, but I can't name one under 10K that really beats them. I wonder what I think mine are worth when I upgrade the x-overs (Mills and Sonicaps). I would start the bidding at 10K if I were selling. That way I would never be "POLK-less".

I really don't think it's proper of you to come on here asking what the value is for a pair of Polk speakers that you want to sell. I think it's even dumber for folks here to provide that answer. Not to mention the fact that we have strict rules for selling any item here. You must have 25 posts and it must be posted for sale in the Flea Market section.
The value of any item is what the seller wants and what a buyer is willing to pay.

Why not? Really, wouldn't this be the first place anyone would go to ask for the price of a vintage Polk speaker? I don't see anything improper with that.
I think it's even dumber for folks here to provide that answer.
Come on Jesse; this is not proprietary info.... easy to get with a little searching. Besides, if someone would have jumped saying that they cost $300, that would have been improper.

True. but I see here a very different behaviour than in recent "unpleasant" situations. I don't think we need to jump at everyone that wants to sell something. People will get their 25 posts and will offer items for sale. If there's interest and the price is right, there will be a transaction.
Just my POV.

Geez, sorry. didn't mean to get anyone's undies in a bunch. was sincerely trying to decide if to sell them or not. wasn't trying to break any "strict rules". So, it's ok the break the rules for one because they happen to have a pair of 1.2TL's to sell, but not another whom may have something less than? I don't think so. We don't know a new person, the rules help weed out the punters. The way I see it, any new person asking the value of something AND stating that they are ready to sell the item is circumventing why we have the rules we do. As you stated, I "feel" the PM's flying......that's not right.
mralpha, my comments are directed more to the forum than to you. They should know better, you're new.
FYI, here are the rules. http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/announcement.php?f=34

No, it is not ok for anyone to break the rules. And I don't think they are being broken here. If somone is making a deal via PM's and gets scammed, well, that someone deserves it for not being careful (Not that there's going to be any scam here...just saying). If any new user gets to 25 posts, then posting a for sale add does not break the rules. The way he/she gets to the 25 posts might make a difference on how "accepted" he/she is, but he/she will still be a "stranger", and anyone making a deal with a stranger needs to be cautious.
I think that 25 posts is too low, and the reason why we get into these situations, and newbies with a slight indication of wanting to sell something are attacked. We should increase it to a lot more.

well let's see now if i can answer all the questions. first off, i checked on e-bay and coudn't find anything. when i googled sda srs 1.2 it led me here. as i said, i have had the things for almost 20 years! wife and i wanted smaller now that we are in a condo. actually have already bought something else, so money is not an object. i just wanted to be fair and get fair. i'm 57 and a vp of hr at a large company so if i sell them for 1000 or 3000 doesn't really matter to me. ias i said, i've already spent another 1500 already. in fact i might not sell them at all! so in the end, it may be this forum that loses out when i keep them or sell them elsewhere. maybe i'm naive, but it has been quite abit of pain to get when i ask a polk forum a question like how much are a vintage set of speakers worth. life is much to short guys. maybe it's my age but it sure hasn't felt like it was worth the trouble to ask a simple question. by the way, to answer some other stuff, i've got them tri-amped with b&k mono-blocks (200w) for each low end and a b&k st140 (105w/channel) for the high end. ilove old rock (joe walsh, reo, supertramp) the blues (larry mccray, anson funderburgh) and jazz (larry carlton, grover washington, david sanborn). i have over 1000 cds and also run a pioneer elite 60 inch plasma through my system. so, if anyone thinks i'm trying to cheat, make a few extra bucks, or somehow screw the members of this forum thay are absolutely and unequivically wrong. there, i've said my piece, goodnight, i'm tired!

You are apparently a music lover like a lot of us. We need cool heads like yours here. Your efforts on information about your speakers seemed to be a legitimate effort. Personally, I wouldn't sell my Sda's but it appears you have made your decision. Get your 25 posts and "git er done". Good luck.

mralpha, please don't be offended, but yours are not the first "mint" pair of SRS 1.2's we've come across here. This forum and the members are quite familar with every make and model of Polk Audio speaker. Some of which you and other's have never seen or even heard of.
This forum welcomes and survives by members participating in it. It survives because there are friendship's and trust built up over time amongst the members. Polk gives us a place for us to learn, teach and build lifelong friendship's. THe forum could not survive without trust.
I think you are an honest guy. I hope you will make the right decision and get a fair market value out of your SRS's. Asking a simple question like your's, "what is the value of the SRS 1.2's?" isn't always an easy one to answer.
It's like asking what is the value of a mint 1953 Austin Healy car. To some people that value would be very low. To a afficiando the value would of course be more. To a collector, even more. So that's why I think you didn't get a straight answer to a simple question.
My SDA 2B's have great value and bring me alot of joy, but to many other people on here they may not.
thanks and the forum welcomes you here. :)

oh, great. a math expert! LOL:rolleyes: and i thought you could only read minds!
to everyone else, thanks for the info, support etc. it is actually putting a smile on my face! it is kind of funny! in general, it feels like a pretty decent group of folks. i also had absolutely no idea what a set of speakers that i bought in 1989 would be worth. so when you "google" their name and it points you to a forum all about the company that makes them, it seemed logical that i'd ask the question here. of course i didn't expect an exact answer. i was hoping to get a range or understanding of possible value. i understand that none of you know me, but then again i don't know any of you and i would not pass judgement based on a question. if i decide to sell, would i like to sell the sda 1.2s here? of course i would. does that make me a bad guy? i don't think so. i promise all of you this (yes, even you F1nut), i am honest, sincere and direct. life is too short to worry about crap! i've worked much to hard to get where i am today to change now! i try to take people at their face value, and i like to give everyone i meet or come in contact with a chance. again, if you knew me, you'd say that i would be the one that gets screwed in the end more often then not!
p.s. what's my post count up to now? LOL:D
well let's see now if i can answer all the questions. first off, i checked on e-bay and coudn't find anything. when i googled sda srs 1.2 it led me here. as i said, i have had the things for almost 20 years! wife and i wanted smaller now that we are in a condo. actually have already bought something else, so money is not an object. i just wanted to be fair and get fair. i'm 57 and a vp of hr at a large company so if i sell them for 1000 or 3000 doesn't really matter to me. ias i said, i've already spent another 1500 already. in fact i might not sell them at all! so in the end, it may be this forum that loses out when i keep them or sell them elsewhere. maybe i'm naive, but it has been quite abit of pain to get when i ask a polk forum a question like how much are a vintage set of speakers worth. life is much to short guys. maybe it's my age but it sure hasn't felt like it was worth the trouble to ask a simple question. by the way, to answer some other stuff, i've got them tri-amped with b&k mono-blocks (200w) for each low end and a b&k st140 (105w/channel) for the high end. ilove old rock (joe walsh, reo, supertramp) the blues (larry mccray, anson funderburgh) and jazz (larry carlton, grover washington, david sanborn). i have over 1000 cds and also run a pioneer elite 60 inch plasma through my system. so, if anyone thinks i'm trying to cheat, make a few extra bucks, or somehow screw the members of this forum thay are absolutely and unequivically wrong. there, i've said my piece, goodnight, i'm tired!
by the way, about 15 miles frfom newburyport!Well I dont think you are trying to nor will you rip anyone off here if for no other reason than that no one here is going to purchase these without picking them up in person. As far as this forum losing out because you decide to sell them somewhere else I doubt that, if you decide to ebay them most likely within hours of the ad being listed it will be posted on CP that there are a set of these for sale on ebay. if you attempt to sell them on CL the same thing will happen. If you decide to keep them fine but dont feel like your punishing us because you dangled the carrot then removed it lol.
The rules of selling things here are for a reason to protect both the buyer and seller. This is an example of how things can go wrong, someone shady with few posts mentions that he has some rare sought after item and that he has no idea of its value. A greedy or simply desperate forum member that has always wanted one of these decides to pm this fellow in the hopes of getting it first or getting it cheap. the seller agrees and asks to be paid and shows pictures of the item to the buyer, the buyer sends the money knowing he got a great deal and it was worth the risk. Meanwhile 4 other members do the same thing and the seller agrees to sell each of them the same item, pockets the money and is never heard from again. Or it is a legit item but in this instance the seller recieves 5 pms and tells the first fellow that so and so offered me x amount more than you did and starts a bidding war behind the scenes and sells his item without having to pay ebay fees or having 25 posts.
This is why Jesse/F1nut and others here frown on asking about how much something is worth then stating it may be for sale.
It can lead to bad things happening not that you are dishonest in any way.

F1Nut, you need to lay off the Newbie taunting. There is nothing wrong with him looking for the value of his speakers on this forum, and looking at his post, it doesn't seem like he was trying to push them, rather, just looking for experienced opinions.

Thanks to everyone for the help!I think you better hurry up then because John is allready talking with the seller for these. In my oppinion both the seller and the buyer involved with this entire mess should be banned permanantly, otherwise why even bother having rules. You could up the post count to a thousand, so what if there are going to be people that skirt the rules and get away with it, it isnt going to matter how high the post count needs to be it will simply be ignored. The mods on here will hopefully step in on this unfortunate situation.

Well I had a pm from a member here that offered to sell me a set and I have responded but haven't heard back from him yet. Hopefully it all works out and no one gets burned...

+1 I was joking when I said about them not lasting past this thread. John is not exactly a new guy and should know better. We might as well scrap the for sale section and just turn this thing into a place to pedal you wares. Then who can you trust. I was fooled.I thought mralpha was on the up & up.

This is my last post on this matter I have had my say how about I feel about this and its not up to me change things.

Was there alot of PM conversation going on here? Looking at the thread, there was some joking around, then unacknowledged confirmation that a sale was taking place.

Just to clear some of the air-NO ONE on this posting has pm'd me - but another member that saw my ad in the wanted section contacted me. He had 2-pair of 1.2's and offered to sell me a pair and I am buying them. He is a member here with a LOT of posting and a very nice guy who helped me find what I was looking for - I appreciate it greatly. Hope you all work out your differences, life is very short so find the best in everything you can!
Take care,
Paul

I think people on this forum are too concerned on wether or not somebody who is taking a risk of buying something is going to get screwed or not.
If somebody is selling something and the buyer wants it bad enough they are just going to try their hardest to get it (like I did with my PR's), at that point I had two things to weigh, on one hand $3500 I sank into my 1.2's and my ripped PR or getting new PR's and pissing off some people on the Forum.
I chose the PR's.
We go on and on about who's trying to sell something not in the FS and they dont have 25 posts.
I think we should state it once, CP reccomends that you buy from people with 25 posts or more in the FS. If you buy something from somebody out side the FS and get screwed then too bad, we warned you.
Beyond that what else can we do?
How many whinning posts do we need to read on this damn subject?
We will never control this.

SalYour situation was unique Sal, it was motivated by NEED not GREED. Therein lies the difference between these 2 deals. I think that if anyone here had said simply to the new guy hey if you decide to sell these after you get 25 posts I want dibs all would be well and no one would have said anymore about it.
In this case the buyer bad mouthed this board on another forum in addition to completing a deal outside the FM with a new person with less than 25 posts which somehow leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. As to what can be done about this in the future I dont know thats not up to me.

Maybe Justin needs to treat these people as spammers. And just delete the posts and the members. If you try to sell anything and you have under 25 posts you will be deleted.
Beyond that what else can we do. To the seller with under 25 posts we are just another Craig's List to them. Someplace to advertize their wares to people who most likely will be intrested.
How many of these people actually stick around after they sell their Polk Gear?
I say Ban Them!

This is my biggest concern. It's not that hard to run up 25 posts on here. I don't want to see a bunch of people start hit and run to dump there unwanted stuff. At least on e-bay there is a way of checking up on sellers. On here you just have to trust the seller. If this keeps up, that will no longer be able to be done so easily.

Rules are rules and the punishment for every forum I belong to is banishment. Having been thrown out of at least one, I can tell you they can be a little strict (I bashed a supporting vendor's product).Having said that, in cases like this would you always know who sold what to whom? This one seems to have taken place with private messages - did it really take place or did I miss something. If it did (and we know it for sure), then throw both of them out.

Seriously guys........this thread needs to die. Quick.
I'm 100% positive the people in charge are aware of what is going on and they will handle it with what they deem appropriate.
The fact that some of you are jumping so quick to say "Ban both of them immediately" kinda tells me why no one put you guys in charge, no offense to those of you I talk with on a regular basis.
We're talking about a new member here that came to pawn his stuff.....yes, he violated the rules. So ban him.
The other member, yes he is a newer member, but he also contributes to other aspects of the forum and engages in discussions OTHER than what you people are calling him greedy for. Sure, maybe taking it to PM's for the final sale was wrong and violation of the forum rules. But let's face it, we all break rules time to time to get what we want. It just happens.
On another note, yes JMA is local to me and no I am not defending him because he lives 2 towns over, I have never met him. However, I do know that this is the first pair of 1.2 SDA SRS i have seen come up for sale in this area in the 4 years since I have been looking on this forum, even prior to me joining. The fact that he jumped on them as quick as he did, I can't really blame him. Sure it was wrong like I previously said, but for someone who may have been waiting years for a local sale like this on a speaker this size...what would you have done?
That all being said, sorry for the long winded rant, but I don't think a banning is the proper move for something like this....a warning, yes/maybe, a banning? Absolutely NOT.
Seriously, how many members have been driven off the past months? Too many at this point. And to drive off a participating member that doesn't stir the pot in other threads(ex. CL35M & KA7), I say issue the warning and let this thread find its way to the archives.

Ok guys. I think we are getting too far here.
1.-I see absolutely nothing wrong if a member cuts a deal via PM's, with a new member with less than 25 posts. The buyer is taking the risk, and it is entirely up to him. If he/she gets scammed, he/she had it coming. You know what? There is nothing we can do about it. Hell, I don't want to do anything about it. What's the next step? Will we "audit" PM's to see what's going on? Come on....
2.-Let's say that the new member that wants to sell something, takes the time to build up his/hers post count to an overwhelming 25. Let's say that he/she actually contributes, answers a couple of tough questions, helps out with great thoughts......Does this make him/her a safe seller? Didn't think so.
I am the first one to say that the Polk forum members and administrators have created a great environment for safe transactions. 100% proof? No, and the buyer and seller should still be cautious even if they are dealing with members with positive feedback. I have shipped stuff to some buyers without even getting the payment, but I would not do this with anyone, no matter what the feedback says. It is up to each one of us to know what we are doing and use comon sense.
I think that increasing requirements to 100 posts PLUS 90 days in the forum would discourage many of these people that just come to sell, but there will always be "wise guys". Nothing we can do about it.

Ricardo, That is a very good idea!, Why didn't i think about it?, damn!
Just make new users have to wait 30 or 60 days until they can sell something.
But they can still create a thread that says "SRS 1.2TL, mint, $500 OBO email me: joeblow@cornears.com"
Maybe the registration needs to be changed. New members need to email a member with 10000+ posts and when that member interviews the new person then they can log in.
But, I'm done on this subject, I've thought about it enough and I really don't care anymore. well, at least for right now, maybe in the future I will care.

For what it's worth Ricardo and to the powers that be, I don't see any problem with this besides the occasional loose screwball. Demonstrating that you are indeed a "member" of Club Polk by participating and getting involved with the forum, biding your time and making 100 posts to let folks get to know you a little bit should yield the "privilege" of posting what you have for sale.
This should help to weed out the folks who have busted/crap gear and want a quick sale, but have exhausted all other means of selling because of their past sales history wherever else they sold. This should help the forum weed the scum out, IMO and help protect some of the newer members that may not be as experienced [as let's say, a senior member] in transactions over the web.
Seems to me like a win, win, win situation for all parties involved except for the joker who wants the quick sale, then bye, bye. ;)

Well, let take a step back. If you had been looking for a big set of SDA's for a long time, and a set turned up in your backyard that you could go see, listen, pay and transport yourself. I think a lot of people in that situation would go to the PM and see if a deal could made. In the case of big SDA's, where local pickup is almost a must, this is a low risk opportunity. Other transactions that involve some "trust" for a seller to describe the condition, risk shipping or an outright ripoff, the buyers should be skeptical.
