Currently my tv is at eye level when sitting on the sofa. The RTi6 are mounted high and about 3 or 4 ft left and right of the tv at the corner fronts.
I'm thinking about picking up a pair of RTi10 today or tomorrow. Is it ok to let it sit right next to the tv? I barely have any room, so I have to let the cabinet almost touch the side of the tv.
At the same time, I'm moving the RTi6 as the rear and getting fxi3 for sides.
is a 7.1 an over kill for a 10x10 room?

Check this dts website. It has avaliable, different layouts for surround. 7.1 high and front is one of them.

none of those picture works for me. My seats are pushed all the way back to the back wall. Do you have any suggestions?

Sounds to me that with your room, and having the seat in the back wall, 5.1 will be the way to go.

In my room (10x12) i don't have the room for 7 speakers, so instead I took my rti10's and biamped them off the front and surround channels, this makes them get twice the power that my amp would normally provide them and they love it. I use my monitor 30s as my rear surround, this essentially created a 5.1 system without wasting the surround channels on my receiver.

You can always do like I did for my father. He insisted on 7.1, with his chair and sofa pushed up against the back wall. So for his back surrounds, we layed them down faced up against the back wall and pulled his sofa out from the back wall about 3-4 inches. Suprizingly it didnt sound that bad.

Of course not, its HT, the south end of it.;) You can put the front next to the tv.
