I'm moving to a bigger place with a larger area for my HT and wanting to upgrade to maybe RTi or LSi (not sure yet). I'm just wanting to know to make this leap from Monitor 40's what should I do first?

Start with the brains of the operation -- the pre/pro or receiver. If you're gonna upgrade to Lsi's, you're gonna need separate amplification.

Get moved into the bigger place. Once there and you know what you are working with (both budget and room) - ask again.

Well serperate amplification is key in really any and all upgrades correct? Even if I would upgrade to some Rockets or something like that I'd have to have better electronics right? Should I upgrade from my Onkyo 503 to a low level receiver with pre-outs or just get a pre/pro now and then save up some more and get an amp? And if so what pre-pro's should I be looking at? Not really anything fancy for the time being just something to get by.

Cant answer any electronics questions until we know what speakers you are working with. Can't help with any speaker questions/suggestions until you know what your room will be like.

For now - all you have is questions and no answers. Assume it will cost money and start saving now. When you get the new place, let us know what you saved up. Until then - read more, post less. (I really am trying to be helpful here....)

OK that's fair enough. After we get moved into our new place I'll see what potential the room has and how much the little lady is gonna let me spend on a HT system then I'll get back at you guys. But just food for thought the electronics are just as important as the speakers so that's something for me to keep in mind.

Get a Parasound 5 ch amp !!

get a pre/pro that has all the bells and whistles that you want...it`s the "brain"...don`t skimp...look forward into technology as far as you can as far as what you want (TV, AMP,SPeaks, etc.)

As Mcloki said...

Check out your space..
make a real budget....not just "somewhere around here" kinda thing...try to be as realistic as possible..
are you making a HT/2ch all in one rig, or mainly HT ?
Make a short list , including cables, I/C`s, gear, speaks.....

Once you have measured and got a clear understanding of your room, budget, and main use for the system....

Then we can formulate a game plan..

I know how exciting it can be to put a brand new system together...
I also know how frustrating it can be..

Try to Take your time and do it right the first time....

It will pay off in spades..

Congrats on the new digs by the way..!!

Are you buying or renting...if you don`t mind me asking

if you do, just tell me anyway...!!!!!!!!

Well for now we'll be renting. But hopefully it'll be one of those things that turns into a rent-to-own land contract.
