Hi - I've heard that after the new system update, SACD is not playing on multichannel anymore. Anyone had this problem yet?

Unfortunately, my current receiver doesn't have a HDMI input (yes, I know it sucks!) - does anyone know if I can get 5.1 using a regular optical (digital) cable?

Thanks!!

You can get 5.1 DD or DTS via optical, however, you cannot get SACD over optical.

You need a total of 6 rca jacks for SACD, and (I believe) an EXT. IN port on your receiver

Yes and No. In a typical, non-PS3 situation you would need 6 coaxial cables connected to the multi-channel inputs of the AVR.

The PS3 supports SACD over HDMI only and I recall the 40gb version not supporting it at all but that's more about firmware. The 1.90 firmware was high resolution 5.1 but is PCM based, not DSD but that may have changed with the new firmware. That's all I know of the top of my head.

As far as I know, no AVR with HDMI that supports SACD.:)

ya, PS3 is HDMI only for SACD, I had the same problem when I had my older Onkyo 800 plugged into my PS3 via optical.

Who in their right mind would use a PS3 for SACD!?! Pffft!

What ever happened to the good ol' days of getting an SACD player an hooking it up to your rig with good ol' time tested IC's, getting on with your life and enjoying great sound?

Damn convenience crowd.

I'd rather have a dedicated unit than a "jack of all trades and master of none". YMMV.

The PS3 is an excellent Blu-ray player.

I now have a 1080p LCD panel which supports 24hz and the image quality and motion is quite excellent.
