I am trying to identify the model of a single Polk speaker I have, but am unable to determine its model number. After having searched this forum and various internet sources, I am unable to determine which Polk model it is, or perhaps if it was orignally produced as part of a set.

It is a glossy black speaker, bookshelf size - almost square.

I will try to post a photo if noone is able to identify it just from being glossy black and relatively small, maybe 9" tall, 6" wide, I'd say. It was likely a surround speaker as part of a set, but I don't have a second to make it worth using as a surround speaker.

Anyone have any thoughts?

The only 'glossy' small speaker I can think of is the RM7600 series.

Thanks. I don't think it's part of the RM7600 series, judging by the photos.

I've uploaded pics of the speaker in question. There's a positive and negative pole on the back.

I guess it wouldn't be 'glossy' per se, but it still doesn't look like any of the speakers I found photos for in the archive section of Polkaudio.com.

They are monitor series 2. Here is an e-bay auction with pictures -

You can confirm the identification if you take out the driver and tweeter, note the model number, confirm the speaker dimensions and contact Polk via e-mail or phone call. The driver will probably be identified as MW_ _ _ _; and the tweeter as SL _ _ _ _ . There may even be a date stamped in there somewhere too.

I would guess the glossy is due to a repaint job.........those are part of the RM series, circa 5400, 6600, etc.

I think you're right. If I recall most had a gray speckled paint job. Kind of a marbled look.

EDIT: Just saw the eBay link above. That's the finish I was picturing.

Folks, this speaker is a RM2000. I own a set. It came as part of a sat-sub combination. The sub(RM1000) is passive. They were purchased 14 years ago and were used as front channel speakers up until last year. They are now used as surrounds in a 5.1 set-up. They were excellent speakers, and still sound fabulous after all these years

Yup. math wizard nailed it.

Satellite is RM2000 that came with the RM1000 passive sub (which I have now found in a different stack of equipment).

Thanks to everyone for their input on this one!
