View Full Version : Unpopular statement
I'm about to make a statement which will prove incredibly unpopular. For my own safety, I ask that all individuals who read this please keep any weaponry away from your person! : )
Why beat around the bush, Im coming out of the closet this very evening. I, enjoy a pair of semi-large black, four year old...Bose 701's.
Ok, So I dont own them, but they are about the only Bose speaker that I could actually attest to desiring to own. Perhaps its insanity, or hearing loss, but I remember its sound being rather competitive with the 2000's when I first got them.
I seriously consider purchasing them sometime down the road for a seperate rig.
Thats all for now........

I believe thats a problem,
own what you like to own, not what other people say you shouldn't.........Bose bashing????common......people buy em...they sell there ass off,if they stunk so bad,I believe they would go out of bussiness. They have there own stores around here anyways......Does any other speaker company?????I think not......I could see cambridge soundworks having a store but I never saw one.
Bose is Bose......I say if your into them......be into them.Don't let any clowns..clown you out of them.
I don't own any Bose....I did in a car I used to own.....Nissan Maxima.......it had a Bose system and I felt it rocked.......it was able to be turned all the way up without distorting into a horrible mess.
The little cubes they make..........yes they cost more then alot of you including myself would pay, but the space saving's and the amount of sound they produce is pleasing.......
I'm not a fan of bashing............Bose included.

I admit I still like going into the bose store at the outlet mall as my wife goes to the other two hundred stores there. I love listening to the people give great praises of the speakers and wish they had the money to buy them. My one friend owns a pair of 901s for twenty years and swears he has not found anything that sounds better (of course his wife only lets him out once a decade)

I have had a pair for about 7 years now and there in the bedroom. I really do not like them but they are better than the TV speakers... Soon I'll buy some Polks for the bedroom.

Well, usually coming out of the closet carries a much different meaning than getting your Blose on.....heh.

I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima and love the Bose sound system. Unlike other speaker companies, Bose does not sell their speakers alone. They design the whole system for the manufacture. Bose are my second choice to Polks. I tested the 901's before I got the SRS. Very happy with the SRS. Perhaps one day Mat Polk with get together with GM, Toyota or the like and design a great sound system for cars. I am a amature at building sound systems in cars. My 1969 Chevelle had my best system. A top of the line Pioneer tape deck with a cd changer driving MM6510's, MM1001's, MM6900's (6x9 3way) (memory on model number is fading with age), 10" polk subs with a SDA-ACM to create the sound stage. Too bad the car had way too much road noise. One day I will get our Maxima from my wife and give her the Odysey. Untill then I have to make the best with what I can. Minivans are great for kids but terrible for audio.
Polk #1
Bose #2
BTW I have a wave radio in the kitchen.
I will give Bose one thing,
I have owner a few of their speakers, including the little accoustimass cubes and the 101 series bookshelves, and I simply could not bust them. So help me God I tried, but they just wouldnt blow.
Perhaps its just my experience, but I have found Bose to actually make pretty robust speakers.

Like everything else in this field........they have there place..You'll find them in many new cars today........Polk had a run at OEM speakers,I believe it was Yugo or Hyndai???I don't remember now...but it was one of those.

We have a 1994 Nissan Maxima SE that originally came with a Bose sound system. When I test drove the car two years ago, I realized *something* was wrong with the audio system - either bad front speaker or front outputs. I priced replacements. A single amp/driver unit was $800.
Bose designs the entire system because they tweak the electronics to compensate for deficiencies in the drivers/system. Whoever owned the car before us had replaced the rear Bose drivers with Alpine, but was still driving them through the very UNflat-response amps. Man, did that sound bad. So, I pulled the Bose amps in the rear, fed the Alpines straight from the new JVC CD player, replaced the blown Bose components in the front with new Alpines, and now have Alpines all around (2 rear, 2 front) and am completely free of Bose in that car.. except for the nameplate on the integrated speaker grills (and I've contemplated using a black Sharpie to take care of that).
I've been impressed more with Bose car systems than home.. maybe because the size of car drivers forces them to use tweeters that are smaller than 3", which, almost by default, gives a better high end. But beware, should part of that integrated system fail, you either spend a ton to replace it, or get rid of the entire system.

I have owned a pair of 301's for about 15 years or so , they have the old paper tweets, they are up in the bed room and hooked up to an old MCS 45 watt integrated amp, I don't know if it's the vaulted cieling or what but I think it's still the best musically sounding system in the house.
Boses problem has been just falling behind in the mass market, I mean lets face it I would prefer a pair of Best Buys JBL's over the 901's, the cube system is overpriced, whew that price tag, but they work great for the typical urbanite that wants decent sound but is lacking in space, i.e. apt or condo. The all in one systems they seem to be putting all their cookies into though.......shit you gotta be kidding me.

If you can snag an old pair of 401s, do it. They can be had pretty cheap and sound pretty good. I also like the 10.2 and Interaudio bookshelfs.
All 3 of these models are out of production.
