George Grand

Sentimental value? Price to performance? $teal ratio? Historic piece?

I would never sell:

The Carver Amazing Platinums - Because they're too amazing.
AR-9 - Historic/$teal/PtP
The AR Receiver - Historic/Sentimental
The AR Integrated Amp - Historic/Sentimental
KLH Model 6 - Sentimental/$teal/Historic/PtP
KLH Model 18 Tuner - Historic/PtP
NAD 7130 Rcvr - Sentimental (in Tiff's bedroom with my old Model 6's)
Roy Allison Labs Mini-Reference - (Too tough to find another pair)
Advent 201 Cassette Deck - Sentimental/Historic
Tandberg TCD-310 Cassette Deck - Love it too much
Apt "Holman" Pre - $teal/Historic/PtP
AR-302 - Historic/$teal/PtP
Onkyo M-5090 - I love this power amp. Tough to find another.
Original Dynaco "Quadaptor" - Historic/PtP

That's it for now I think. I might have a pair of AR-5 on the way, and if I do, they ain't leaving once they get here.

McIntosh MC-7270-$teal, more power than I'll ever need
Tannoy S8-My first "high-fi" speakers
Goertz AG2 Cable-Too pretty to let go. :D

If I ever come across a pair of Tannoy D700's or D900's, they're never leaving.

Not long ago, I placed a lot of sentimental value in a few electronic toys I run. Lately though, I've begun to look at it more as what it is; stuff. That said, in my years of travels, the only product I've owned that I do not plan on moving out anytime soon is the Totem Acoustic Sttaf (2003 model). (sentimental / performance)

Belles 350a reference. Best amp under $10,000 (IMO, of course). I don't think anyone else in the forum has given it a try. You should.

RTi8's and CSI5 for the HT. Perfect for my needs.

I don't have a closet like George....

All my gear in my signature has a sentimental value to me because it is all basically my first dip into audio/video stuff. I've spent my hard earned money while in while since I was 18(now 22) to build the collection I have in my signature, including the LCD tv. None of it was gifts either, so it all has a special value to me, and therefore I just don't see myself selling it. When I move into my own house I plan on having a dedicated A/V room and that's where it's all going.

If I had to make a small list of hardest stuff to part with:

Samsung 40" LCD 1080p(took me 5 months to pay it off)
Adcom GFA-545II($teal)
Adcom GFA-535II($teal)
Outlaw M200
Jolida 502B w/ subwoofer preout($teal and nightmare getting it shipped here)

My Carver M-1.0t amp and DTL-200 CD player because Bob worked on both of them and they are signed. Actually, the amp has my name on the front of it too so that would be a hard one to pawn off! (well, maybe not...but)

And, my SRS II's that I have personally gone thru the fun of refinishing the tops and bottoms, crossovers, etc. There may be other things but I can't come up with them off the top.

The only things that I can really, really say that I would have a real hard time parting with would be;

Spectral DMC 10G preamp -Sentimental value/Historic piece plus the friggin thing still outperforms many, many high end preamps to this day.

SME Series V Tonearm -Sentimental value/Historic piece

Maybe, just maybe the,

Polk Audio SDA/SRS 1.2 TLs -Sentimental value/Historic piece, reminds me of my first SDA/SRS I purchased in the mid 80s.

The Tri Vista 300 hybrid/integrated I just acquired is not leaving anytime soon either.

Melos SHA-1 Sentimental plus, I've never heard a better preamp at any price
BDP - my custom, hand made tube phono stage
Heath Williamson 5 tube monos - Sentimental/ptp
Sony SCD-555ES - (modded). Performance. I'd say 98% of the MF Tri-Vista at 1/3 price.
SDA SRS 2.3tl's - sentimental

That said though, most everything else will probably come and go.

I swore I wouldn't part with the Quads but I'm going to sell mine (to get a newer pair down the road)

Same thing with my VPI HW-19mkIV. I've tricked it out about as far as I can get. Now I want to start with a Scoutmaster and trick it out over time.

My main rig. Someday it may become secondary but I doubt I'll sell the pieces in the next 20 years.
Onix SP3- destined to be a classic.
Totem Mites- the most underrated mini-monitor on the market, and a perfect match for the SP3 IMHO
Jolida JD100 modified- a killer bargain
Celestion si stands- legendary

But most important are the oak stereo rack and dresser my grandfather built.

I'd sell it all. cars, bike, stereo, wife, kids, dogs you name it. (kidding)

I think I'd have the hardest time selling my RT55's. The first thing I bought when I got a "real" job; I'd been planning to purchase some Polks since I was 11 and drooling over the SDA line in my grandfather's Stereo Reviews. I think I'd store my 2B's for a long time if/when I replace them in my 2 channel set up, but if someone with more dollars then sense came my way, they'd be gone too. None of my stuff is what I'd consider good enough to keep forever.

My dog, well, being a 7 month old puppy, there are times when I'd give him away. To the person that caught him. After he descended from his low earth orbit, as induced by my foot in contact with his hind quarters. Most of the time, he's cool, though.

Shack, we have something in common. I also only have one functioning kidney, so kind of need to hang onto that for a bit longer.

Gear-wise, I love most of my gear but wouldn't put any of it in the "won't ever sell" category. If I found a great price on something better, I'd be all over it. Also, when you have entry level stuff from a lot of nice audio companies (Thiel, Polk, MF, Music Hall, Theta), then you know there's better stuff a little higher up the foodchain. Maybe in 5-10 years I'll finally settle down and keep some stuff for over a year.

I feel what Doro is saying vis a vis "never"

that said, it would have to be a VERY unusual circumstance to sell my AR9's, I'm gonna run these things until they evaporate.

as much as I should sell the Carver Platinums since I dont have an area in my house for them to shine the way they should, I still dont have the heart to. Hearing them at Polkfest (in reverse configuration) has renewed my interest with these things. time to start thinking outside the box.

the LSi's in my theater aint going anywhere anytime soon, this is a performance to dollar thing. to ge a marked improvement in the theater, I would have to remortgage my house or something.

Carver amps (tfm45 and 4.0t) another perofrmance to dollar thing, even with the rising prices on the used market.

The Hafler DH500's (2), they make the AR9's sound so good. thinking of letting Musical Fidelity get there hands on them and go to town

Rogers LS-6 monitors, they just have something I like. selling em for the measly 200 or so they're worth isnt close to worth it.

NAD c160.

Not the best preamp in the world, but I have wanted it ever since it came out and now I have it. It is from the same line as my amp, and I can tell that I can mate it with just about any poweramp and get stellar performance. It is the item that has finally broken the "integrated" curse.

I don't see needing a new preamp in a long time.

The other thing would be my JBL passive studio monitors. I have put enough money into upgrading woofers, crossovers, ect, that I doubt I will ever get rid of them. They are probably the best nearfield monitors I have ever heard, but they did not start out this way. When you put a lot of work into something, it makes it hard to sell.

Well I never sell any of my 2 channel stereo equipment. i just use it till It just dies...LOL
My Polk SDA 1C's (studio)or the black models....I will just keep upgradeing till Polk no longer has replacement parts

Onkyo entagra M-504 amp. Has never failed me. I got it for cheap(thats a realitive term..I don't remember what it cost me..probably $500.) as a demo model and 1 of the meter lights was out. 1 rap on the top and the light was back on...LOL

Sony XA3ES disc player....one of the best at the time..and still works perfectly.

A Technics model 1700 turn table. Not Audio phile..but one of the only ones that would work at the volume that I play music at.

I see no reason to sell any of these. I could not get the money I paid for them, and have no interest in trying to ship them anywere. Plus they work better then most new stuff anyway.
