Well after finally working out some finacial difficulties, and through some "creative banking", I have found a couple of sets of tubes that I just couldn`t pass up...
...even though it is a rough time of year with Christmas and all....

Also do to looming, and almost sure to be financial doom with my finances, my timing may not have been the best...

But sometimes ya just gotta say WTF..!!

I picked these up;

12ea. SED "wing C" EL34. Input tubes are JJ EL84 & JJ 6922($500 value).

Also a set of Electro Harmonix KT88 and Electro Harmonix EL84 & 6922 input tubes ...

OH, and they came with this very MINTY Jag Red Cary V12R amp !! :D

:cool::cool:

I will post pic`s later, as the wife does not know about this yet...
I have to get a very, very good Christmas gift for her....very soon...as to keep from having to move into the camper in the driveway.!

The Bear Cave now has ;

Cary F1 DC SLI-80 Signature Integrated (Jag-British Racing Green)
Cary SLP-98L F1 DC Pre-Amp (Jag Blue)

Cary V12R Stereo Amp [CAD-280 SA] (Jag Red)

And no, The Parasound HCA-3500 isn`t going anywhere !!
She`s minty fresh still, and sounds great...(I may someday send her in for updated mods though, if there are any)

It was a local sale that I just couldn`t resist...

Thanks to a freind that helped me iron out the immediate problems I was having, I was able to pull the trigger on this great deal...

With the luck that I have had the last few weeks/months....I hope the funding that I am counting on comes through, or this might be in the "for sale thread" all too soon :(

I posted a thread on
"what amp would you get ..." looking for ideas, and at that time I was leaning towards a monster set of SS mono`s, or just one serious stereo amp.....Then I just kinda fell into this deal, and couldn`t pass it up.
Well I could have, and maybe should have , but I didn`t ...!!

now I`m looking into what the best speaks to mate with the new Cary are...I am currently using LSi 9`s, and they do sound great...:p

I will not be getting anything for many months, but I think I`m covered for awhile now !!
My next purchase will be the Cary 303/300 CDP...
May have to wait for a few though...no might, my bad...will have to wait for a while...

This is a wonderful sounding pure CLASS A tube amp in MINT condition.
50w ch in Triode
100w ch in Ultralinear
2-6922 Input + Driver
2-SV83/EL84 Current Source
12-EL34 Output tubes

But I have two full sets to play with...the originals were sold before I got the amp)

She will sound like Angels singing when I am done setting up and biasing her many , many tubes...

No need for a heater in this office !!! :p

The wife hasn`t spoken to me all day, I think she knows !!:o,
and she came in to see "what color" the amp was that I was using...I think my daughter ratted me out !!

If it goes as planned, I may consider another one to bi-amp with..
I just couldn`t pull off F1 Mono`s at this time....this was a stretch as it is....
I am an audio addict, I admit it....I may need intervention soon

CARY AUDIO ROCKS !!
POLK AUDIO ROCKS

BEARDOG ROCKS !!!

I also want to thank Jesse for being there for me, to bug and harass...... on an almost daily basis !!

This is the pair of mono`s that I wanted....My amp looks just like them, but of course there is only one

Very nice!

beardog03
12-15-2007, 10:00 PM
Thank you , Sir....

I am actually beside myself right now....

I am also nervous about doing the Bias...even though it say`s it is very easy to do in the manual...I read that if / when you do it wrong, you have to buy matched pairs of tubes to replace them with

could get pricey...

Nice; those have been in my "some day" list for a long time now.

Too many tubes on that room :)

beardog03
12-15-2007, 10:35 PM
many tubes a-glowin..

16 total on the V12
10 total on the SL-80 Integrated
4 total on the pre amp
2 total in the CDP

32 tubes aglowin..!!
It`s just like Christmas in here...oh, wait...it is Christmas !!

It`s getting kinda warm in here...and it`s like 35 degrees outside

I have them all going because ...well I like to see em, and I have not gotten the V12 all the way up and running yet , so the int. is playing right now

beardog03
12-15-2007, 10:59 PM
Thanks Steve...

I am an audio addict...what can I say...?!!

I am very much a Cary Audio supporter / fiend !!

I was going to get somemore bedrocks to bi-amp with, but it looks like my source is/has sold out...
They must have gone to a new name...

Maybe I will try the ones with the 72dbs packs..
I would like to get MIT`s to have cable synergy, but damn those bad boys aint cheap !!

beardog03
12-15-2007, 11:25 PM
anybody have any experience with these tubes ?

treitz3
12-15-2007, 11:30 PM

I don't think you will be disappointed with those. BTW, BD...nice brother! Nice! :D

beardog03
12-15-2007, 11:36 PM
thanks...
I saw some of those Aq`s on AA, and thought,"when I get another bit saved up, maybe I will try these"

The CDP is next though...although the Jolida is a sweet player , IMO

But, I have heard nothing but good things about the Cary 303/300 CDP..

I am still thinking of having the Jolida upgraded (modded), as she has great synergy with the Cary gear

beardog03
12-15-2007, 11:41 PM
yeah, not looking forward to re-tube day...

I will have to put the arasound back in play for a while when that day comes.....if I`m not so spoiled that I just can`t do it..!!

Dude,

Don't sweat it. Tell it that it's actually for me. Supporting the troops and all that. You just had to try it out first before sending it to me.

Make sure when you ship it to me, you insure for the full amount.

You da MAN.

BDT

beardog03
12-16-2007, 01:01 PM
rrrrrriiiiiight !!!

beardog03
12-16-2007, 02:42 PM
I have been reading that this amp likes 8 ohm speaks, but will drive 4 ohm no problem...

Or maybe all the reviews that I read , they are using 8 ohm speaks...

I will be using the 9`s.....but I am putting the cross hairs on something "different" , me thinks...!!

disneyjoe7
12-16-2007, 03:27 PM
I thought tube amps didn't care about ohms do to their design, such as an impedance transformer on their output to convert their high plate voltage low amps to a low voltage high amp load.

beardog03
12-16-2007, 03:55 PM
you could be right...she`s a push-pull ultralinear amplifier in class A

I will do some research, and get some more info on this...

anybody out there that knows...please feel free to help me get my learn on...

fredv
12-16-2007, 04:23 PM
Don't worry, there will be enough juice to drive the Lsi9. The KT88's will provide more punch than the SED EL34. To my ears, the SED's have great mid but seem to roll off both ends a little too soon. My gut feeling is that the KT's will be a better match to the 9.

Oh WOW! I remember looking at a pic of those way back and thinking "Some day someone I know will get something that cool!"

If it is the socket, just tighten the screws that hold the socket to the chassis.
If it is the tube, then use a large needle or something similar to tighten the "spring" that hold the pins. Tube pins are often varied in size slightly. So, some tubes may not sit as tight, no matter what. In this case, just make sure the contacts are good, no sweat.

Man, I go through that every month when PMS kicks in. The weeks where that takes place, my wife invariably always asks why I am not sitting in my regular chair but in a chair up against a wall.

I respond very gently, "you've got to be kidding me!"

beardog03
12-16-2007, 10:20 PM
I would like to think I am going to get a Cary 303/300 cdp one of these days...

For now though, the Jolida does a great job....no need to change her out just yet...

I do need to get a better FM antena though...or one of those serious FM tuna`s...

Congrats on the score. I'm not a tube guy, but if I was, I'd get those on aesthetic value alone.:)

I'd sure like to see a pic of them glowing in a dark room.
