Need help for decent surround system with RT1000p

Hello,

This is my 1st post and i've been reading all the comments and I think this is a great community.

I'm very new here learning about surround systems. I didn't want to hijack the thread on center speakers for the RT2000, so I started a new post.

I was hoping for some advice.

I inherited two RT1000p and want to have a decent surround sound system without high costs.

This is what I currently have.
TV: Sony 46 LCD 1080p V3000
Reciever: Old Sony STR-DE675 (Looking to upgrade this with one with HDMI 1.3 inputs)
DVD: Sony Upconvert DVD (HDMI)
Front: Two Polk RT1000p
Sub: Are the subs in the RT1000p sufficient?
Center: CS400 was what was reccomened in the RT2000's post about center speakers.
Rears: Do you need rears with these two speakers? if so what do you recommend?

Recommendations or suggestions would be more than helpful.

Welcome to the Club Eric! Great speakers to inherit! The CS400 would definitely be the right center channel for those, although I bet you will also be able to use a CS300 or CS245i (those are the three that I have right now), since they appear in the RT1000i suggestions below.

For a "decent surround sound system without high costs", you should be very lucky, since buying used is probably your best option. You can match those 1000p successfully with similar speakers from the same range, such as the RT800 (tower) or RT55 (bookshelf). I have both of these and they are excellent. The links below are for the "i" variant, since there is no equivalent page available for the pre "i" versions, but the specifications are mostly identical AFIK.

And then, of course, you have the specific f/x options also listed below. These may be harder to find used though, and possibly not such a good bargain either.

I think most people are still going to suggest adding a subwoofer for the Low Frequency Effects (LFE) channel in movies. For music, this is probably not so much of a concern IMO, unless you're really into organ music, perhaps! I am not quite sure what the hook-up options would be in this case though.
