A great week for audio on the cheap

Just sitting back, listening to the culmination of a great week in audio for me. Started cleaning my albums with a steam cleaner we inherited when we bought our house ($0). The sound is so much better when compared to the cleaning method I employed previously. Found a couple gems at the Goodwill on Friday, most noteworthy is an absolutely pristine version of the Beatles/1962-1966 in red vinyl ($2). Looks like it's never been played and sounds the same. Never knew Paperback Writer was such a rocking tune. Listening to it all through my Hagerman Bugle phono pre amp that I got on Thursday. Bought it in kit form for $62.50, shipping included. Learned how to solder and put it together in about 5 hours or so. Who said you have to spend mega dollars to get a sh$t eating grin on your face?

I also picked up some vinyl in the GW on Saturday. I also picked up a cleaning system from Guitar Cuitar center because I had a gift certificate. I cleaned 2 records and it made a vast improvement on my GW finds. Not perfect but listenable.

We need to get together again. I almost called you today while I was in Record and Tape Traders to ask you about what cleaning sytem to get but I figured I would just got to Guitar Center and get what they had with my gift certificate.

Say the word, my friend. I'll be at your door, Bugle in hand, before you know it. Although, I dare say it may be an afront to a system of your caliber.


I do need to update my findings in that thread, I've cut down a couple steps and still am getting great results.

I purchased a Raysonic CD 168 the day after Christmas, oh yeah and a Musical Fidelity tube buffer for FREE!!!! Oh yeah and Dave Brubeck "Time Out" 200gm Classic Record pressing!!!

Let us know what you think of the Bugle when you listen to it in Hearinginpaired's system. I have a Bugle and am converting it to mono for 78 vinyl playback. So I am going to need another phono amp soon. I have compaired it to the Carver ct-7 phono section and the Bugle is much better. I am thinking of getting the Cornet2 from Jim but thats about double what I want to spend. What kind of steam cleaner did you inherit? Licorice pizza keeps on spinning.

Will do. I've wanted to hear Joe's system for quite some time now. He's so damn passionate about vinyl playback that I think it'll be a benchmark to measure my system against. Have you tried modding your Bugle in any way? I've already ordered a pair of 12v SLA batteries and am planning on upgrading the RCA jacks when I build an enclosure for it. There goes my cheapo phono stage. :eek::D

Far as the steam cleaner, we found an Ultra Shark steamer and all the attachments when we cleaned out the basement when we bought our house. Little did I know that I'd be cleaning records with it in a year's time!
