Hi All,

I'm new to this forum, but have been reading here for a while now.

I just purchased all the following items, and am "hoping" I made good decisions. I spent a lot of time reading reviews and user comments. I unfortunality was not able to audition these items due to where I live in eastern Canada ... they just are not available locally. This is for a home theater, so my usage will be 75% movies/HDTV and 20% Music & 5% Gaming (PS3)

RTi8 main's
CSi3 center
FXi5 surrounds
DSW Pro 400

For an AV Receiver, I purchased an Onkyo SR705.

I will be receiving all this in approx. 1 week. I cabled my room using high quality cable all around (I didnt cheap out) I was able to find spectacular deals all around, on every item ... so I'm happy with what I paid.

What are your thoughts about my setup here? I'm looking to "knock the socks" off people when they sit down in my theater room. (and obviously mine as well, daily)

Thanks everyone.
David

You have a great system. Welcome to Club Polk. This is very similar to the first system I started with. I would suggest however trading the CSi3 for a CSi5. That way the whole system will be Timbre matched. As of now, the CSi3 has smaller woofers than the other speakers. The Larger center will also be a major asset during movies. Trust me. The center is a workhorse as much if not more than the front mains.

I was a bit torn between the CSi3 and CSi5 .... but at the end of the day, I couldnt find any deals at all on the CSi5 ... and went with the CSi3

In general, the CSi5 is double the price of the CSi3

Now, I'm wondering if I should bite the bullet  and get the CSi5.

Would the difference be that substantial ?

Bite the bullet and get the CSi5, yes. Getting the best "deal" is not worth it at the end of the day... this is stuff you have to live with (usually) for quite a long time.

you have a great system. I have the 3 and now I'm looking for a 5. I bought the 3 due to size of my cabinet at the time, now I have found a way to make it fit.

I understand timbre matching .... but why do polk show the csi3 along with the rti8 in one of their Home Theater system setups?

If this is a generally accepted industry standard, why do Polk not show the CSi5 with this system?

Just curious at this point....

The CSi3 is a timbre match for that entire RTi lineup - the 'recommened' systems Polk puts together are based on pricepoint. Entry RTi tower goes with the entry level CSi center, etc.

Get the best matched center you can afford....it is the anchor for your HT....if you can afford the 5 and have room for it, you will never regret it.....Honest Injun.

What if the Csi5 is not available, whats another option , Cs2 or Csi A6?

Welcome Sir Lagzalot. The timbre matching option would be the CSi A6.

The CSi5 does not sound as good if you put it n a cabinet because of the rear power ports. It likes to be in the open so it can breath. The CSi5 is a great center channel.

My 2 cents.

How much room would it need behind it?

To explain further...my 42" tv is in front of a closet (20 inches deep, 28 inches wide). I plan on installing a shelf in the closet which will extend over the tv. It means there should be a good 18 or more inches open behind the center.

Is this good enough?
