View Full Version : How well am I powering my 15's?

Currently using an Adcom GFA 6000. I see lots of talk hear about 200wpc minimum, but I wonder how significant the improvement in sound would be. How much should I expect to spend on a used amp to get significant improvement over the Adcom??

I will add that I'm VERY happy with the sound now, but it's hard not to wonder what you might be missing.

Well, let me start that if you are very happy with the sound, keep it! The ultimate goal with a system is to get something that you think sound good, so it sounds like your there.

However, 100wpc is not a whole like on the LSis like you were saying. A more powerful amp can make a big difference when it comes to bass extension and detail. It can really "bring speakers to life". Adcom is a good midfi amp. You could try to bi-amp the LSis and see what you think about that as a starting block.

Thanks zingo. I really wanted to bi-amp when I got the Adcom, but my setup isn't condusive to doing so. I guess I'll stick with what I've got for now unless I find a great deal on a more powerful amp.

150wpc @ 4ohms for the front channels, and nice other specs. I'd say you're going just fine.

My Amp arrives this Thursday. I will post a review. However I am comparing an amp versus no amp which apparently will big a giagantic difference.

Sorry if I was a little confusing. My idea is, just for day, try bi-amping the LSis and see if it makes a difference to you. After your listening test, you can put everything back the way it was. It's just a way for you to get another perspective without getting new equipment.

I didn't understand, but I'm probably just a little slow:o This is a good idea and I may have to give it a shot on Saturday.
