Just recently been re-bitten by the audio bug at age 42.I have started scouring flea markets goodwills and craigslist, ebay and have this uncontrollable desire to buy vintage speakers repair them find replacement drivers on ebay ,sand and refinish them. Its spooky it reminds me of the leprachaun from the movie leprechan and his fetish with cleaning and polishing shoes. My lastest find was a pair of polk monitor 5 great design loves the rubber surrounds instead of foam. One plays great and can really grow to love the sounds im hearing great reproduction in the mids and highs.Sadly the other has mid woofer issues seems to be stuck or frozen in place.Being a freshly bitten victim or newbie i seek any help or advice on getting this driver repaired or replaced. My thanks in advance for anyone having time to help steer me in the right direction. mark

Welcome; they always show up on ebay, and Polk also sells replacement drivers for $48, free shipping for Club Polk members; take it out and see which model is it.

Noticed in other posts that they offer replacements for 48 bucks hard to beat that.Still wondering what caused voice coil to seize.Locally ive been told two different stories. One was plastic in voice coil melted and another that a hard jolt could have caused it.Just wondering would be nice to know though. Thanks everyone. This is a great site, great people, great support first class all the way.thanks mark:):D

More than likely a jolt. This is why people here are so reluctant to ship them as they frequently seize up and at that point it's not cost effective to repair the driver.

I have lost 3 drivers from being jolted. That mid is a problem child as far as that goes. I ordered replacements from Polk and all is good.
