I purchased m10 bookshelfs for the front, a psw10 sub, and a onkyo receiver. I'm very happy with everything. Could someone explain to me what -3dblimits mean?? I dont understand the relation between db's and frequency's please help. The m10's manual says they are 65hz-20hz. I also can't decide on what crossover point to set on the receiver, 60 or 80?? If i choose 80 more bass comes out of the sub but am I loosing certain sounds out of the front speakers?

Also are the monitor 30's much better in sound than the m10's? they have the same size speakers thats why i chose the m10's. the monitor 30 are 60 dollars more at circuit city, is worth the extra money?

Thanks for helping a newbie.

I would use 80, but it couldn't hurt to give both a try.

Welcome to the the club Gregpo!

To answer your first question. The -3dB point is the frequency at which the sound of the speaker is reduced by half. This is considered the lower frequency limit of your speaker because in a real application much below this and you speaker will not produce any sound.

As Face said put your crossover at 80Hz. I have never heard the monitor line of speakers and can't comment on the sound. If you think they sound better then I would say the extra 60 bucks is worth it.
