With all the new electronics in the room. I am starting to notice that dust accumlates on counter tops very quickly.
The most well known air cleaners out there is the ionic breeze by sharper image but I heard it's useless.
How do you guys control the amount of dust in your homes with the gadgets running (amp, tv, receiver, xbox, ps3, computer, monitors, etc etc(

A vacuum works very well also. I'd vacuum the room weekly, and the electronics out once a year if they need them.

Do you have one at home? I heard the ionic breeze is bogus. There was a big lawsuit that took place between sharper image and the some consumer report company. And Sharper Image actually lost. The suit says the ionic breeze did nothing.

Yep I have one. Works great. Ultra quiet and you should see the crap that sticks on the rods. Gets rid of oders too.
I'm not saying all are like this, but mine works.

I use regular HEPA filters in other rooms and a good filter in the A/C.
Ionoic breeze is not going to grab enough dust esp if you live in somewhere that is really dusty. It might get the tiny particles, but not the larger stuff... and the extra ozone in the air isn't healthy. It DOES pick up some dust... but it does so at the cost of introducing o3 into the air. It wreaks havok on allergies and athsma if you have problems with that (which was what that suit was over, not that it didn't grab dust). HEPA filters are meant for truly healthy air, but they can be loud and costly. Put a really good electrostatic filter in your central air unit... that works the best.
Vacuum every other day and have the HEPA filters and the a/c/heat running all the time, and still dust builds up quick. Some places are just dusty.

I use an air purifier in my room. It doesn't get rid of the dust completely...but you should see the amound that is on the filters every time I clean it. I think it's worth it. The brand is "Bionaire" it's a tower so it doesn't take up too much room.

BTW I trashed the HEPA filter cleaner when I got the "Ionic Breeze" and never looked back.

My wife vaccums once a day and dust every other day. I really don't get any build up but my gear still gets dusty. I dust my gear once a week or every other week. I don't know how to prevent it from happening.
If you figure that out , let me know.

I found that a good air filter in the home heat pump/furnace works well at preventing dust from coming through your heating system, although it will need to be changed about every other week.
I checked into getting an ionic breeze, although I found a lot of the same information as others here did in regards to whether or not it actually worked....

This is one I have been looking at personally. If you do get a room unit, don't install it near the gear as the air/contaminents are drawn towards it!
Also, I noticed less dust around my gear when my wife and I painted the downstairs in my house!

I've read the costs to maintain the Trane system is incredibly high.

The ionic breeze is pure crap. I've published multiple air pollution papers w/ some of the guys that trashed them and everything bad they say about ionic breeze is true.
Yes, it does remove some stuff out of the air, but the proportion is so minuscule compared to the typical household concentrations, it's not worth mentioning. Basically you could burn toast once a week in your house and that'd put out enough particulates overpower what the ionic breeze can pick up. Actually, it'd more than overpower it...

I use a regular non static duster about every other day. I give everything a good wipe down with a towel misted with windex every week or two.

The Friedrich C90-B (http://www.friedrich.com/products/c90baircleaner.php) is supposed to be awesome.
A little less effective, and at about 70% of the cost, is the Sears unit here (http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_03285264000P?keyword=85264)
This is pretty close to what I use in the bedroom: Amazon Link (http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FHoneywell-17000-HEPA-QuietCare-Cleaner%2Fdp%2FB00007FS10&tag=grilltalk-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325)

Use a decent filter in the A/C and make sure the switch on your thermostat is set to "On" instead of "Auto".
Swiffer and Dyson are a huge help.
Other than that - if you have pets (especially dogs or birds) you will get dust, just deal with it. We have dogs, cats, fish and a bird - dust is just part of life at our house. We minimize it where we can and just deal with the rest.

Just buy a C90-B for each pet, attach wheels to it and a big battery pack, and chain the animals to it. Wherever they go, they'll get filtered!

Make sure your clothes dryer is completely vented out side. You will be amazed at the amount of dust a clothes dryer with a small whole in the duct can create!!!

Yeah man, I'm thinking either he's kidding or I missed something in the audio world. Although, they do have liquid cooled computers and cables with a liquid shielding. Cool stuff! (pun intended) :)
