G-day everyone. Now that I have all my speakers in place, I was browsing E-bay and came across a mint condition, 3 year old Rotel RSP-1066 pre/pro. Well, I ended up winning it for $480.00. Thing is, I suppose it dosn't have all the latest upconvirting this and HDMI that, but I wont have a HDTV for another year anyway...Does anyone think this is a good deal? Should I go for it or have I made a big mistake? Anyone have one of these?

If you won it, it's yours. Next question?

Although I agree with Wingnut, you won it, buy it, you should have done your homework. Even if you dont have a HDTV, you should have bought something with all the bells and whistles on it now. Lesson learned, enjoy the Rotel.

If you don't like it resell it.

I think HDMI is a bit overrated. Enjoy the pre/pro, you'll like it just fine.

It's a good deal but it only has component video output, no HDMI.

typical cost $500-$600 (give or take - thanks Doro)

No, it is not the latest thing out, but they sound pretty good (exceptional for the price you got it for).

Just make use of the 7.1 inputs and have a good time....

The 1068 hits the 800 range, not the 1066.

How right you are sir. I will now back away from the keyboard.....

You got a decent (but not exceptional) deal on your 1066, it is a nice processor (imo) for the money you paid though.

I sold one of those here I think and I liked it alot for what features it had. It was one of the Rotel pieces that really turned me onto that manufacturer.

HDMI - is overated and hopefully on the way out. Enjoy your new pre amp and if you do go HD, go right into the tv.

I do have to say, hdmi is here to stay ... embrace it, learn to like it he he he...
I would agree today it is mostly hype and promises but as fast as technology is being implemented in 2 to 3 years every component manufacture will have it and it will provide a solution around this technology whether we like it or not.

As far as the Rotel purchase, I think what the price was reasonable and it hopefully will sound 2 to 3 times better than what you currently have.

The price you paid fro that preamp is excellent. It's a good one.The sound quality is fantastic. I have owned rotel for years and plan on for years to come. great gear even at new retail prices.
But if HDMI your looking for, Rotel has a new model called the rsp1069. I hate it as it's only 1.1 hdmi so basically it's behind on the day they released it. But if all your HDMI sources decode the audio and send it Lpcm, you will still get all your HD audio in all it's glory. Me eff that I want to choose where it gets procesed. I'm just mad.

This is a solid performer when it comes to analog. If you stick with analog connections and let the player do all the decoding the 1066 can give you years of enjoyment.

As a stereo pre-amp, some say it out performs the much newer integra DTC9.8.
