Hey everyone,
I am half way around the world in Perth Western Australia and although i hav'nt been joining in much, have always read all of your opinions on most topics with interest.
Although new to you guys, i am somewhat of a Polk veteran having owned a pair of Monitor 12's from new for 17 years. Most of that time in 2 channel and lately as a HT as well.
One of the reasons i have been looking at this forum lately is to find out what current model Polk to look at if i wanted to update and even if it would be a step up at all.( i suspect i know what the answer will be from those who love the vintage models)
Its not that i am unhappy with what i have, they still sound fantasic for music and movies.
So i suppose the question is has anyone updated from the vintage models to current ones and if so are you happy or not?
Early B.

Unless it's the Polk Lsi series and you already have plenty of power (not a receiver!), then keep enjoying your Monitor 12's. Consider upgrading the crossovers if you haven't done so already.
Nice setup, by the way.

Bigger??? Its a 50". Sit too close for anything bigger.
Not happy with the B&W center. Waiting for the new CSI A6 to hit our shores and will get one.

Nice move on the new A6. I own B&W as well and like the sound, but as you know, very different than Polk. What don't you like about your center?

Not very sensitive(86db) so have to turn it up on the AV and not too good on the vocals in movies

Nice setup, not sure what you could change. What do you feel is missing? Maybe adding an amp will deliver, and the center as you mentioned. Perhaps running a 2 way system would add to the wow factor youre looking for with electric drop screen and front projector. That room looks amazing though, love the wood.

Like i said im not unhappy just looking for some advise on what might be a step up from what i have if i was to update with new Polks. Going to add power amp at some stage so power wont be a drama.

Australian Karri. Maybe a nice new pair of RTI A9 in cherry would go well with them?

Very nice, must ask though,if you don't mind, where did you pick up that tv stand?

Cheers,
I picked the stand from a general electrical store here in Perth (australia). It wasnt expensive. its was a flat pack, put it together yourself jobbo.
The plasma was bowing the last stand so had to find a shorter one.

Yeah, the Bryston will stir it up quite a bit. I'm with you on the upgrade bug, I just bought a bigger NAD integrated, and a set of Sunfire CRM speakers...

How close? I have a 57" about 8' away. Time to go to a 70".

Looks to me like you have a very nice set-up...I really like the "look" of the Mon. 12's you don't see that many for sale here in the States.
I'm sure they sound as good as they look...BTW,is that a couple of dented dust caps on the left speaker? If so,there are ways to get them back into shape.

Sorry for the slow response, you can do a search here,or you might try taking a vacuum hose and hold up to the cap and try "pulling" it out.
Those are way too pretty to have dented caps,if all else fails, you could pick up some new drivers...but,if they are working fine, not much need for that.
Cheers,Mike

Cheers Mike i'll give it a go.
Does anyone know if the replacement drivers are better than the original ones?
