Yeah, I know. Sounds silly, doesn't it? Who the hell listens to bellydance music?
Well, I saw a dance performance tonight and asked the dancer what music she used. Lo and behold, guess what it was?

Only watch the first 14 seconds of this You-tube link.....

Everything beyond the 14 seconds is a waste of time. The first 14 seconds however gives you a crappy example of what great stompdancing can be like. I have been to many to where, instead of using a basketball court, they use an auditorium. 30-40 people get up on stage and perform a mixture of dance, breakdance and some funky-ass shit pretty much using the stage as a drum.
While they are performing the beat [with or without music] they clap in-between there legs, hit their chests, quadriceps and sometime each others hands. With each hit of the hands to different areas of the body having different sonic qualities.
This was an example of a novice stompdancing team. The really talented ones move across the stage as different groups break off into separate beats and rythems to compliment each other. The groups tightness can really make the show a spectacular thing to listen too and watch. Think about it. They are using the stage floor as a drum. That's a big F'n drum man! With an experienced stompdancing team on stage the experience will move you. When the team is tight, know how to crescendo properly and they can break off into different rythms, beats and dance styles to come back together and all stop at one given moment in time....you can't help but to have goosebumps all over your body and just say to yourself..........WOW!

I used to go to a place in Filthadelphia back in the early 80's (before they started shooting in earnest) called The Middle East Restaurant. Owned by a Filthy councilman named Jimmy Tayoun. He ended up doing time for being dirty. Anyhow, belly dancing? You got THAT right. Good food too.
If you're really ready to expand your musical horizons, I believe I still have several unopened copies (cd's) of what is touted to be one of the first stereo records ever, anywhere. It is a magnificent recording (in stereo) of the "Banda Taurina", the house band at Plaza Mexico, Mexico's biggest bullfighting arena, recorded "LIVE" in their own crib. I get goosebumps everytime I think about this recording.
I get one big goosebump when I think about one of those bellydancers in particular.
