They were going down hill any ways. Opens up the market for better companies. Don't get me wrong. I like the older stuff.

It could mean a much needed source of development capital, a larger supply chain with more purchasing power, and a revitalization of the Adcom product line. Sometimes these aren't all bad. Emerson isn't stupid, so they see some upside opportunity in owning Adcom.

Does that mean Walmart will start carrying Adcom?

If I'm not mistaken, VW bought Porsche not so long ago.

Only if the new Adcom units start coming dressed-up with one of those nifty "Made in China" labels on them. ;)

I am just afraid of what happened to brands such as Acoustic Research (AR), Advent, KLH, etc. will happen to Adcom.
I heard NHT is in trouble as well.

This happens all the time. As long as they keep there quality, this could be a good thing.

This bugs me, because I know that back in the late 1960s/early 1970s, the conglomerate was known as "VW Porsche-Audi" and there were many jointly-developed cars (e.g., the VW-Porsche 914 and 914/6; the Audi Fox, which was also sold as a VW...)
The more recent VW Porsche news befuddles me...

The original poster got it backwards. Porsche purchased a larger stake in VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) about 3 years ago. VAG is the largest auto manufacturer in Europe. In the past VW/Audi/Porsche have always benefited from joint development of products as in the Porsche Cayenne and the VW Toureg are essentially the same. They shared engine technologies, design services, engineering principles and it's always been sorta of a quid pro quo and the "machine" was running along without issue. When VW hit some hard times a few years ago and the North American market took a dump Porsche feared that another company might come along as part of a hostile take over So Porsche injected cash by buying a larger stake in VAG to help stabilize the company and continue the sharing the 3 brands have always enjoyed.
The great benefit to Porsche is that many of the R & D things can be worked out among VW/Audi and because they have the clout (resources, economies of scale) to get it done and Porsche doesn't have to pay the extremely high cost of bringing something completely new to the market. Porsche as a company is a mere blip on the ass of VAG (in the big picture), but Porsche has always been and remains today a cash cow because Porsche historically has always had little to no debt.
Hope that clears things up. Porsche was simply looking out for their own interest when they injected a bunch of cash into VAG.

RE:Adcom
Things they are a changing!! Here on the forum as well as in the audio market. Adcom has just been dragging along offering the same products they did 10 years ago. Hopefully they will continue to offer the quality and keep the "Adcom" sound and keep it affordable. I'm hoping this will allow Adcom to use the much needed cash injection to develop new products and be competitive again. I fear the outcome will be much like it was with Nakamichi when they were sold to Grundig, that is Emerson will cheapen everything and capitalize on the Adcom brand recognition to hock inferior products.

Or...........hopefully Emerson is looking to get a higher quality name brand (e.g.: Toyota/Lexus,etc) to give them a presence in the higher end market. Also, they can share technologies and hopefully both will be better for it.

I hope so but I don't see it. The mid to high end market is too small (and getting smaller) for a mass market company to go after. Most people use an i-pod for everyday music and buy a name brand htib for their "highend" music system. The only thing I can see is emerson wanting to chase the bose market.

Similar fate happened to AR and Advent when they were sold to Audiovox. I predict similar awaits Adcom.
