I bought a really nice pair of Monitor 5A's for $116 shipped. I got the seller to wrap up the peerless tweeters seperately but he would not do the MW6500's because he's been packing speakers for years and was outraged that I could suggest that something would happen to them with him sending them!
I made him a video.

That movie made feel like I was watching the Blair Witch Project. No worries Sal, Dustradio can help you get premium for them as long as you supply the pictures.

Obviously he has had a lot of angry customers over the years then.....It's a damn shame, That's what has been keeping me from buying a pair that isn't local....

I just hooked up the one speaker that looked ok but the MW6500 is locked :(

That scared the hell out of me. I could hardly watch it without covering my eyes. I just knew I was going to see something hideous. I did........BUBBLE WRAP!!!!! I can still hear the popping noise.

Ouch,, are the cabinets salvageable?

Sal, I may have a crossover for you.
Sweet!, That'll be cool Mike!, I need to look for some MW6500's
It's just a shame, I wanted these for that itube amp thingy, I think they would have been perfect.
They only cost me $46 + shipping, which was like $65,
I don't know what the seller is going to do about it, he didn't make enough money to buy me a pair of MW6500's. That's going to be around $50 to 70 right there.
It's just depressing :(

Ouch,, are the cabinets salvageable?
Yeah, I guess so. I just hate working with vinyl or veeners. Just because I
have never done any repairs on both yet. No experience :(
Any response from the seller?
cubdog
Nope, not yet, he was a slow emailer, you know, those people who check their email once a day.

But Sal, they are sonically superior. The original photos look great. You don't trust the seller?
Flea-Bay has become a sad entity worthy of crooks lately. Sorry to hear of this. It looks like a lot of work to do for something that should have been plug and play.
On a different note......I know you love projects.....So get to it! :p :D

When do you get those, Mike? Didn't the seller agree to pull the drivers and ship them packaged separately?
Sorry Sal, I know the feeling (somewhat). In my case it was an EBay purchase shipped and dropped by DHL. Banged up a crossover and one driver but the cabinets came through OK. Maybe with some club member assistance it will all work out.

If you are going to keep them...did the PR's get damaged ? I thought I saw a hole in one and some scrapes as well. If you are keeping them I have a new pair of that sized radiator as well ( Same back bedroom that your 15's came from :) )
Its really a shame that polk only glued the magnet assy's on...if they had been bolted/screwed on could you imagine how many more would be alive and kicking today ?

I have had everyone of my Monitor 5A drivers freeze up 1 by shipping and 2 of them by someone in the house bumping them. I have not have a problem since I got the replacements from POLK. The newer model drivers are more stable to clumsy people in my house.
Good Luck and you will be surprised by the fullness of sound coming out of these speakers.

sorry the seller didn't pack em up better. i just shipped a pair of Monitor 7A's and they could have been dropped from a moving plane and withstood the impact.. i feel for ya. with my limited shipping and buying of speakers. I have never run into a problem.. but i've just been lucky it seems.
hope the seller is willing to work with you on this though.

Yeah this seller sucks!, good thing he gave me PF already :)
He hasn't responded yet, I will post a claim with paypal and get my money back!
here's an email he sent me:
Sal,
What a pain in the butt! I'd packed them two weeks ago and already had them in my vehicle after seeing you'd paid me. Nonetheless, I went back out and opened them up, partially destroying my carefully done wrapping and removed the tweeters. Put everything back as best as I could took them back out to my truck. Get back in here to reply and see that you wanted
the woofers removed to? Well, that ain't gonna' happen.
I've sold and shipped many speakers and never had a problem or complaint. So, if you want the tweeters too, send me a box. I can't pack them and protect the domes. I'll need at least another $10.00 for my trouble plus postage.

Now I'll show him. MW6500's cost $48 each from POLK, I'll just get PayPal to deduct that from his acct!!!

That's a terrible packing job. FedEx and UPS recommend at least 4" of cushioning on each side. Looks like he has 1 or 2 layers of bubble wrap. Send them back. Get a refund from Paypal.

That blows. I have a pair of Monitor 10, series 1 for you if you want. I live just across the water in Brooklyn near Grand Army Plaza.
$75
I'd rate the sound at 9.5/10 beautiful sweet sound
I'd rate the cosmetics 6.5/10 minor peeling along some of the sides and a nick on one front corner..nothing too major, nothing visible from listening distance. some pitting on the tweeters but it's not horrible
Original peerless tweeters...the frames for the grills are in horrible shape, but the cloth is flawless...come check them out and buy or reject on the spot.
Cheers,
Eli

I've got a pair of M5 jr's with the sl1000 tweeters. I am pretty sure they have the MW6500 woofer. They have been sitting in my basement for awhile and I do not think that I will ever use them again. They were my first set of Polks and I was keeping them for "sentimental" reasons. You are welcome to have the woofers (or the entire speakers) if you pay for shipping help out with the proper packaging techniques. Let me know and I will test them out to make sure they still work and confirm the woofer model.

Call me.
Dude post a pic of the face of the woofer.
I have crossovers for him too. Been waiting for a update.

If you need me to take a shot at the driver that is frozen I would be happy to. I have had luck with my homemade jig freeing up frozen Monitor 10 drivers. I am down here in South Jersey.

Thanks Scott but I already ripped them apart, they are toast
