I don't see it anywhere in stores anymore. Not that I see SACD anywhere anymore but I believe SACD is still alive.
Whats the scoop? If it is truely dead, I'm planning on getting a Sony es SACD cd player to replace my Pioneer Elite DV47a. I really have no more use for it unless DVD AUDIO is still around and you can buy new music. I have like 5 or 6 disc's and could care less to spin them anytime soon. I have way more SACD's and wouldn't mind buying more. Not to mention I want a combo player SACD/cd for my 2 channel/multichannel listening. The Higher end Sony es players do sound better then the Pioneer Does.

Not your question, but I say yes DVD Audio is dead.
Now my question why does the Sony es player sound better then the Pioneer?

DVD-As and SACDs are harder to find for sure. FRYs still carries them on the rack, and you can still locate them through SA-CD.net sources, MFSL (mofi.com) and in the used market. The selection continues to be limited.

The last time I did a shoot out the Sony had the edge in overall clarity over the Pioneer only on SACD. Cd's it was very close and you basically had to pick which one you liked better.
I favored the Pioneer as I wanted both SACD and DVD AUDIO. Gave up this to get that. Not to mention I didn't want 2 players.

Like Elvis, DVD-A is mostly dead (pictured is the DVD-A of The King's "30 #1 Hits")

There's an upcoming DVD-A from Ringo (Starr, that is) though....not to mention The Beatles' "Love" DVD-A.
As for SACD, it's still alive. Especially overseas. From all indications, Sony has shut down its SACD pressing lines at its Indiana CD pressing plant. What you're seeing at Best Buy and Fry's in terms of SACD are what's left over, which still have some good stuff if that's what you're looking for. Otherwise, you'll have to look for hi-rez at ebay or some overseas sites. For example, the following SACD came in the mail this week....
1. Monster Cable Home Theater Demo SACD
2. Alison Krauss - Now That I've Found You
3. Deep Purple with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra - Concert for Group & Orchestra (2 SACD set)

The Monster Cable SACD came from ebay and is not listed at sa-cd.net. One of those demo samplers. The other 2 SACDs came from overseas (Hong Kong) and there's a separate thread about them on this forum.

RIP DVD-Audio my good friend.
it was good knowing you since your birth back in 2000, even though you had a short lifespan, you brought joy to the ears of many audio junkies like me.
I will miss you my friend.. but I have about 12 of your children that I can listen to and remember the good ol days when you were an up and coming format.
Your cousin SACD is still around, but for how much longer? Both of your lived in harmony for a couple years.. with people each having their favorite format.

My Marantz DV-8300 plays both, but really excels at SACD. I have Elton Johns Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in both formats, and the SACD blows the DVD-A out of the water, the DVD-A sounds muddy when I play them back to back.....
