Look like SDA-1's that have had a tweeter replaced with a SL2000 ?

That brass plaque version is VERY rare and they are worth $100. It doesn't increase the value but it's a cool, vintage Polk caveat.

Rather rare 1As with Matt Polk's sig covering the port holes with the brass plate. Shadow's right about the tweeter replacement.

I guess they do. So they originally had dual peerless? What is the thing in the middle between the drivers and tweets...a badge of some kind?

A small, brass plaque with Matt's signature and it may have the model number as well.
I've had a chance to buy a couple over the years but the condition was terrible, so I passed. It's a truly unique model to find.

Planning on it...
It would probably be a 2-3 hour drive from me, though. Would like to see what he has to say about condition and the tweeter replacement.
More research making me lean to the SDA 1 vs SDA 1A...any way to tell besides tweeters?

The tweeters are the dead giveaway. The "transition" between the 1 and the A on anything Polk is a shot in the dark.
It's clearly a dimensional tweeter version of the SDA1.

Spoke to the owner this morning. They were his girlfriend's and she has moved away, so he has inherited these. He has no idea what he's got, either. No idea about a cable; no idea about the tweeter replacement (but only 1 was replaced, the other 3 match). He says they look "pretty good" - scrape across the bottom face of the one in pic, grills have some cat-scratching, otherwise pretty good.
I need $100! ...plus another $50 for gas. :(

Cmon man...unless you drive to work on a skateboard you have to do this :D
That is unless the girlfriend filled up the speakers with raw pork before she left ;)

I want to do this!
Not riding to work on anything right now...lay off Jan 25, still looking for work.
LOL...no pork, please - I like to hear the music, not smell it.

Seriously...no bullshit...PM me your address...I'll send you the 100 bones.
Just make sure you take some pictures of them in your house :)
Maybe someone else on here will donate the correct tweeter for the bastardized one ?

Hi Cambir and the rest of the crew,
I just talked to the owner also. I logged on to check out what these speakers are and find this thread. I got sort of the same story. He didnt say anything about talking to you. Said something about the crossover needs to be replaced? Maybe its a new poly switch? I told him I wanted them and would drive down tomorrow to get them. I worked till 7am this morning or I would go now. Cambir, I dont need two pair of SDAs so dont worry. Maybe I will like my sda-2 better. Hopefully I can get them tomorrow and we can keep them in the family. He is going to hook them up and call me back today. Cambir, are you up for a little road trip?

I think he did make some mention of having a crossover to put in, but didn't quite understand his mumbling.
I would do the road trip, but I'm at home everyday with my 19-month-old son.
Go get them, have me over for a listen. If you don't like them (yeah, right), maybe I can do something about it. I want them, but just can't do it right now.

Hi Cambir,
I'll try to get them. The mumbling does make it hard to figure of what he said. Wish me luck.

First time through a lay-off for me...and it sucks. Never been in a position to offer $100 either, though, so you're catching me by surprise. I truly appreciate the gesture.
I think I'll let biker get them. He's got the ways and means to do so. We'll get together for an SDA shootout. Then, when he doesn't like them, I'll see what kind of money I've got.

Hi Cambir,
I called the mumbler to say I was on my way this morning and he mumbled someone got them last night. Glad I didnt drive 1 1/2 hrs to find that out! I hope that someone will appreciate the speakers like we do.

i and many have learned that a deal like that doesn't wait... sorry you both missed em.
if you see a deal like that again.. be sure to get over there that day/night. they don't last till morning in most cases.
they were a cool piece of Polk Audio history.. and I don't think many people here own that particular transition model.

I can remember seeing the Polk ad with Matthew sourrounded by speakers in high school. I only got my first Polks a couple of weeks ago, 10a's, locally for $160. After getting acquainted with the site, I've just been looking around to see what was out there. I don't know if this is cheating or what, but I have a friend in Aberdeen, who acted as my agent. He talked him down $10 since there was no cable, and I got them home on Sat. 1 tweet (the SL1000 in the pic) is the odd man out, all the rest are SL 2000's. It did come with 2 NIB SL2500's. Are they a good upgrade? I'm going to go all through them, as being in that climate all the screw heads are rusty, and there is some moisture damage in a spot or two. I figured somebody was being cheeky and swiped the brass plates from some SRS's. I can assure you I will appreciate them.

I appreciate the welcome. I would love to hear from anyone on the best way to update these these, if the SL2500's are a good choice, what to upgrade on the x-overs. etc. I will keep you posted on the progress.
