Just did intial unpacking and headed back to work. These speakers look amazing, can't wait to fire them up. I've got Rti-4's and a Bic Sub enroute along with cables / wires.

Trying to decide if I should go ahead with the Onkyo 705 now or use my 100W X 5 Pioneer Pro Logic for a couple months until some second gen HDMI receivers come out.

I went with the 805 off ebay for only $600 and I'm loving it. Having the extra 30 watts per channel would do those speakers some good!

805 is a sure bet for Rti8.

I'll have to consider the 805 too, I'm looking to avoid a separate Amp later.

I'll have to consider the 805 too, I'm looking to avoid a separate Amp later.Once you start on separates, you won't go back. Other than rack space and the initial investment, you won't be losing many dollars...even when upgrading. Used amps hold their value unlike AVRs and pres.

That being said, the 805 is getting a lot of praise. Still, IMO, the 705 with similar features, coupled with a nice 2/3/multi-channel amp will trump it for long term satisfaction...maybe not with the 8s, but your next set of speakers.

If you're the type that is going to stand pat for years, then the 805 is your best bet, but judging by the number of posts you've generated here and on AVS, you're already hooked ;)...get used to the itch...it only get's better and more expensive :D.

30 watts, you won't notice a thing, it's not enough to make a difference

As you know Lock, i have the 705, and its def is strong enough to push the RTi8s...I can def see where people are saying the 805 is the way to go, but i personally, atleast was my plan from the beginning to go with the reciever and then get the amp last, i can see where an amp'd 705 would be a better bet.

Thanks Ron, I guess I have all the symptoms of being hooked now!

Shimey013, yeah I think I'm going with the 705. I probably will end up getting an amp later.

Update on the receiver:

I did it!! Watching their site and picked up a refurb 705 for $467 after taxes (was thinking I'd be tax free d'oh). Still $130 cheaper than Amazon's lowest price I've seen. At $160 cheaper (no tax) it's a no brainer to me. At $130 I wonder if I should cancel the order or just go ahead with the refurb?
