Need some help, been out of the car audio scene for about 8 years and trying to put a small system in my truck. Looking for sound quality.
The truck is a 01 ford superduty crewcab. I already have Polk db6.5 components for the front doors and db 6x8 for behind the rear seat.
For head units I was looking at Alpine cda-9885 or kenwood kdc-x791?
Could go with a double din with some trimming.
As for amps I was looking into kickers 5 channel amp to add sub later on. Also is soundstream has a 5 channel amp that doesn't look to bad, but are they the same as they were when I had a ref series amp from them.
Would like to stay around 500 for head unit and amp.
Any thoughts or advise?
Thanks
Rob

Both the Soundstream and Kicker are very good amps. Ive always kinda liked Kicker and theyre more readily available to you could probably get a better price on it. I like 5 channel amps as theyre just easier all the way around. The Kicker is also about the most powerful 5 channel out there.
As for the head unit, again, both Alpine and Kicker make good gear. The differences will be in tuning features. Alpine has gotten away from SQ decks and are going more for the Ipod crowd. I suggest looking at the features each has and get the one with the most flexibility in tuning as in crossovers and EQ's and such.

Whatever it is, it must be pretty good cause I dont see what I missed.
Pretty much every Alpine HU Ive seen of late has treble and bass controls and thats about it but by golly they can sure tame an Ipod. Most of the Kenwoods have EQ's and halfway decent crossovers.

Ive used woofersetc.com, sonicelectronix.com and onlinecarstereo. Alpine 9886 is a killer deck as well. I just bought the 9887

Great. Another "4 sided box" moment.
I really should proof read my posts instead of just rapidly typing out the first things that pop into my head and then hitting submit.

we ran that exact kicker at circuit city in the road shop for about a year and a half, and never turned it off... it seemed pretty solid and a lot of our guys went with that one.

i got a rockford fosgate power 1000 25 to life amp for my girls car and it is awsome! the birthsheet states 115 wattsx4 into 4 ohms and 920x1 watts into 1 ohm. its a 5 channel amp with the sub amp being a d class so its efficient. i also highly recommend kenwood excelon head units. my kdc-x991 is the best sound quality unit i ever used with tons of features. i got mine for $400 from a kenwood dealer with a full warranty. here's a link.

The Kicker. I just like their amps and I like 5 channels. Makes things easy for guys like me that hate to install.
