I am debating on the Morel Ultimo 10, JL Audio 10w6 or Polk Sr104 Subs. I am looking for a great Impact and good SQ. I will be going with two and powering them with a PDX1000.1 Amp. Does anyone no of a place to get a good deal on the Morel Ultimo Subs? I cant find anyone that sells them.

Please give your thoughts on the best of these three subs.

How will this Alpine PDX do for SQ on Subs???

My New Set-up in 2005 Mercury Mountaineer,
Head Unit: Alpine IVA-W205
Processor: Alpine H701
Front Doors: Polk SR5250 "unless I can make the SR6500's work"
Back Doors: Polk SR5250
Amps: Alpine PDX 150.4
Sub Amp: Alpine PDX 1000.1
Subs: (2-10") JL Audio 10w6, Morel Ultimo 10, Polk SR104

Well I can tell you this about the subs you are interested in...

The Morel Ultimo 12 has just been voted best SQ sub of the year in Australia in Incar Entertainment magazine. They went on to say that when powered with a serious amp (these subs handle 1000rms which is unheard of for an SQ sub) the sub exerts superb control over everything south of 100Hz. It can go quite loud when pushed, but produces low frequencies with an accuracy and fidelity not heard before.

The Polk SR10 came third with a highly commended vote (same with the SR speakers which were pipped by Seas Lotus Reference). It goes surprisingly low for a 10" and can hit very hard and has the speed and detail that's inherent in all great SQ subs.

Regarding Morel, we get them at fantastic prices in Australia and they are quite popular, however they are not able to be sold overseas from Australia at the prices we get them for here.

It would be a very hard choice to make between the Polk and Morel subs, both are excellent but if you want to compete and win SQ comps, the Morel has the edge.

Thansk agin for the help.

Is the PDX 1000.1 considerd a high end amp to give these subs there sq sound????

YES!!!!! I found someone within an hour drive that can get me the Morel Ultimo 10 for $650 each $150 below retail and I think he is talking me into the Elate 6" Components. He said they are not bright and very smooth with AWESOME Midbass!! He did say the polk sr's are good but the elates are better all the way around. He said he could do those for $1000 with retail being $1250.

Ant thoughts on the Elate's?????? I have never heared them just going on what I was told.....

i think if the elates were that much better than the SRs, Mac wouldnt be finishing top 2 for 2 years in a row in world finals.

i had the elate 6 set in my car and loved them. the sound is very similar to the sr's imho except for the midbass. the elates get the nod with monster midbass! the sr's are no slouch in midbass, but the elates were better. that being said, if the elates were that good and the supremos being better i would love to hear them. they must be awsome! i sold my elates thinking i was out of the game and was looking for a speaker that gave me what the elates gave me and thats why i have sr's now. i got a hell of a deal on the elates at only $500 and sold them like a dummy. i since got a pair of phoenix gold titanium elite 6 set made by Morel that are modeled after the elate 6 and they are just as good for $299 from woofer etc. they are in my girls car, i would recommend these highly.

Morel are quite popular in Australia and I've heard the entire line, including the Supremos. I've also had a good listen to the Elates and I would take the Polk SR's any day. The Elates are nice, don't get me wrong, but the Polks are more dynamic and have more of an edge to their sound. Morel are generally a 'warm' sounding speaker, very good mid-bass and smooth, but I find them boring after awhile, whereas the Polks grow on you, especially once they have run in.

The Polk SR has a better tweeter than the Elates as well.

I guess if you like a warm sounding speaker, go Morel. If your speakers sounding a bit more dynamic and very detailed, go the Polks.

theres a lot more to winning competitions than what speakers you buy.

Well, if buying polks guaranteed a W, everyone would be getting them.

Mac with you being in Tenn and not that far away do you know of a good tunner after I get all this installed. Need a good tuner.

Alpine IVA-W205
Alpine H701
Alpine PDX4.150 (Would have done Macintosh but takes up to much room)
Alpine PDX1.1000 "
Morel Ultimo 10" x 2 (Sealed)
Polk SR5250 or SR6500 (Depends on room when I remove door panel)
Stinger Expert Wires (need to check and make sure there not silver! LOL)
JL Audio 2 Gauge Amp Install Kit

I am going to get the 4 channel PDX amp just incase.
Should I go PDX4.150 and just use 2 channel or PDX4.100 and Bi-Amp or would there be no difference. I am wanting the extra channels just incase I decide on rear fill or 5.1 set-up in the future.

Jeff Smith owns a shop in Atlanta and is a genius. Is one of the best installers Ive ever seen and is an excellent tuner. Has a couple world championships under his belt and has built countless world championship cars for other people and is just a really cool dude. I dont know how much he charges for tuning but I can guarantee you that itll be worth every penny.

I would personally go with the 4.150 and bi-amp the SR's. Thats a lot of power tho and could easily shred those wonderful SR's so if youre not comfortable with that get the 4.100 and bi-amp.

Or you could just wait for the new polk audio amps to come out this summer. I'm sure they would be better matched up for the SR's.
