I am planning on buying a pair of new bookshelf speakers.

From all the reviews I have read, I am deciding between either the SVS SBS-01 or the Polk RTi6.

Does anyone have any experience with the SVS bookshelves? From the reviews I have read, they seem like giant killers.

The SVS speakers have a lower sensitivity than most speakers, meaning they will require more power to drive. This isn't a shock, since they use a sealed design (whereas Polks are ported). They're nice speakers... but ultimately, it's personal preference. I'm fine with my Polks, though I am using a SVS subwoofer.

I'm very satisfied with my Polk RT7/SVS PB13-Ultra combo. It's a great sounding combination. I've yet to come across a speaker that has made me want to part with my RT7s.

Really. So you guys think the Polks are better than the SVS bookshelves?

This is strange, since from all the reviews I have read, the SVS bookshelves are definitely giant killers, besting speakers costing 3 times as much. One person I talked to even compared the SVS bookshelf to the much more expensive Polk LSi9, and he preferred the SVS bookshelf. He said that the SVS bookshelf sounds cleaner to him, and has better detail.

Sounds like you've already got your mind made up. Snatch up a nice amp to drive em properly and enjoy your SVS's.

Polk bookshelves are better than many bookshelves on the market for the price or even for twice the price, period.

read this here, lower quality polk monitor bookshelves destroying all other manifacturers..imagine what polk can do with the RTI and LSI line...

in fact, polk monitor bookshelf surely kills the SVS... : simply read this for the Svs:

Minus:
LOW sensitivity 85db ( needs lots of power, more than twice/triple the power than comparable polk speaker in fact to play at the same volume)

no bass output ( lows only 68 hz ???)
so-so look
No flat frequency response with 5db bumps in many areas of the audio spectrum

Plus:
Good crossovers.... wow

simply put, theses surely not compare to polk offers. Polk speakers have more than 50 U.S patents on every speakers..

In fairness, those SVS speakers are designed to be used on a system with 80Hz crossovers, and they state so... so a 68Hz low end with their sealed design is not unreasonable.

I'm sure the SVS speakers sound great. Given their return policy, it'd certainly be worth auditioning them in-home if one was curious. That said, I'm sticking with my Polks. I've heard good things about the SVS speakers, but I like the sound of my Polks and they definitely look better in my room than I imagine those SVS speakers looking.

Not trying to continue feeding the troll. Just dropping some knowledge. ;)

I would have to second this, you just can't go wrong with the Polks. I just got my new RTi A3's, and love them. Moderate sonic improvement over the RTi6, and they look fantastic, even better than my LSi 9's.
