View Full Version : Would anybody be intrested in some Pin/Blade connectors?

Hello All,

I have a friend who has a 3-d CNC machine and I'm sending him a pin/blade connector to see if he can make me 100 or so.

Also, the pin & the blade will be all 100% silver, not copper. The pin will be a hollow tube almost like the center pin on the eichmann bullet plugs.

I don't have the figures yet,

I want to ultimately make a pair wire some 14 gauge silver wire.

Let me know if you would be interested.

Maybe POLK CS may want some as well, then they can sell pin/blade cables again.

Thanks,

Sal

Hell yes. I would like a set to get my 1.2ts back in action.
What I’m really in desperate need of is an A-1 interface. Maybe this will get me started on making one.

Great idea, although I'd much rather they be plated copper. Silver always has a nasty edge to it.

I'd be interested to see the cost. I was going to have a friend CNC a tire tool I need for my BBS wheels. The tool is plastic and needs to be metal. The cost was extremely prohibitive for billet aluminum. Granted my piece was probably about 10 time the size of a pin/blade connector.

I was thinking that some people may want copper over silver, this could happen as well and it will bring the price down.

I just want to see if anybody's intrested, if not then I'll make like 10 for myself and that's it.

But if people are intrested then Hell!, I'll make whole bunch.

Are there different mixtures of copper out there?, which ones should I use?, or is copper just copper?

Can't silver be molten and molded easily?

The size of the pin shouldn't require precision.

Sal, both silver and copper oxidize making neither ideal alone. Copper plated with gold or rhodium would be ideal.

I was thinking that the plastic connectors would be made first and then the blade and pins would be inserted manually by myself.

I might have to have the blade and the pin made also by someone.

Here's a question:

Do I flatten the soldered end of the pin?

Do I need a little screw at the end of the pin and the blade to attach a wire to?

Or is solder totally acceptable?

Thanks, Sal

Copper plated with gold or rhodium would be ideal.

I wonder if that's something I could do myself?, Can I buy a machine that allows me to electroplate gold or rhodium on copper?

I'd be interested in a few cables.

I'm not sure.

Ask your local jeweler about the process.

Solder is always better. Silver solder if possible, ;)

Gold is not the ideal surface to solder to. Stick to silver.

My friend who is a jeweler can get me the silver at very low prices. when he puts in an order for his store he can just throw in the order for some silver tubing and silver flat stock.

Ask your local jeweler about the process.

This is an excellent idea as well as cost conscious. My best friend is a jeweler and he has to "renew" the Rhodium on wedding bands all the time. No sure what metals Rhodium can be applied to but a jeweler would be able to fill you in on the chemical end of plating.

Count me in for connectors and cables both.

Yes, my 1.2TL's need a better connection. Let me know. Thanks.

The silver tubing is being sent to me via fedex. I found another pin/blade cable and that's coming too. I will compare the new one with mine and see which is in better shape and then I will hack apart the one in worst shape and send the connectors up to my friend to give to his friend with the 3D CNC machine.

My Friend said he can get silver flat stock as well. He also said he can get copper and he knows a place that can electroplate gold or rhodium onto copper.

Sal, I've been thinking about this and I haven't come up with a good idea (yet) as to how the pin/blade pieces are going to be mounted into something. You got anything?

I was thinking I might redisgn the connector, I don't like the way the cable droops off the original one and is constantly pulling the insulator away from the connector.

I was thinking that I might make it almost 90 degrees, so that the IC cable runs straight down the back of the speaker.

Also I think I want to make it so that you can easily solder 1 to 2 cables to the connector and then slide over a piece of shrink wrap and heat it up and your done.

I need to get the design into AutoCAD and start playing around with it.

I might be in as well, but what a great idea friend!

Thanks Zingo, I think my 2nd pair of pin/blade cables are waiting for me at my P.O. BOX, I need to get there and ship them out to my friend with the CNC machine.
