This might seem like a dumb question, but will I get more power if I add an amp (ie. Outlaw 7125, 125wpc) to an Onkyo 805 (130 wpc)? Is the power rated differently? If so, would I be better off to save some cash and get the Onkyo 705 (100 wpc) if I plan to use this as my pre-pro while I get an amp, the Outlaw 7125 or something similiar?

I guess the old timers get bored of this question, so i'll answer this time.
It's not a question of more power, but better power. do you need more or better, it depends on the speakers you want to drive.
I did notice a HUGE difference in quality when I went to the BK 200wpc.
I'm really starting now to notice the difference more and more. Base really hits harder, midrange sounds better... highs im not so sure about..but anyway.
if you have smaller speakers, or More efficient (very expensive) speakers that need less power to sound good then you dont need a seperate amp... well you never NEED a seperate, just that a seperate on power hungry speaks (brings them to life, makes them sing, insert audiophile analogy here) etc etc..
the quality of the wpc is the difference, so 100 wpc of a receiver like an onkyo not going to be as good, rich, warm, whatever adjective you like, sounding as 100wpc from a much more expensive receiver Krell, etc, or a seperate whose sole function is to drive power and not decode process etc like an onkyo...
my personal thoughts... play within your financial range and dont go crazy, there is a diminished return on dollars spent for the best of the best and noticeable improvement in sound... I would probably have been very happy with just my onkyo...probably wouldnt have NEEDED the seperate and could have saved a lot of bucks..
I have an adcom 5400 (125wpc) 2 channel for sale 350.00 delivered. That was my first step to seperate amplification... then I went crazy..at least for my budget. pm me if interested in the amp
