Just about any telac CD would sound great. I like my sony SACD 2 channel Sampler. Willie Nelson sounds like he is in my living room.

I found this review of Lateralus at allmusic.com:
After an exhaustive five-year litigation battle between the band and their label management, Tool offer up the latest chapter in their musical self-discovery in Lateralus. Make no mistake, this is a prog rock record, reminiscent back to the times of King Crimson and Meddle-era Pink Floyd, with a hint of Rush mutated with Tool's signature sonic assault on the ears. Lateralus demands close listening from the first piece onward, as it becomes quickly apparent that this is not going to be an album one can listen to and accept at face value. Complex rhythm changes, haunting vocals, and an onslaught of changes in dynamics make this an album other so-called metal groups could learn from. While some compositions seem out of place, others fit together seamlessly, such as the 23-minute song cycle serving as the climax and resolution of the album. However, the album's most disturbing moment arrives at the end, with dissonant electronic noises placed randomly with a drum solo over a phone call to a talk show discussing the secrets behind Area 51, once again serving as a symbolic gesture from the band encouraging people not to take things at face value and to think for themselves. Overall, a solid, well-produced album from a band that never fails to deliver with each release.

I love King Crimson and Floyd so this cd sounds great. I recommend 'In the court of the Crimson King' by King Crimson

I could not have summarized it better. Phuz (Aaron) turned me on to it, he was kind enough to give me a sealed copy as a gift at the Texas Polk Gathering.

I've always been a Tool fan to a degree, but this cd really takes it to a different level in my opinion.

Hsve you heard all 3 Tool cd's? I've read some great reviews on them but haven't
bought their cd's yet. I'm buying Lateralus. I've also read some great
things about Undertow and their other
cd. What can you say about their other
cd's? I thought they were more heavy
metal which I'm not a big fan of, but
allmusic.com makes them sound like
a prog rock band. I love prog rock.

I wouldn't classify them as 'hard rock', but definatley on the 'heavy' or 'dark' side if rock. Progressive? I have never used that term myself.

live so I'm on a dialup. I'm going to buy at least one of Tools cd's and give them a try. I'm a big Pink Floyd fan. Do you think Lateralus would be the best one to buy first?

I would highly recommend Undertow and Aenima, both are great recordings with thought provoking lyrics. I think they are one of the few bands out there that really care about how their recordings sound and presented. Their drummer, Danny Carey, is also from my hometown of Paola, KS. Big deal, huh?

Check out "Opiate". Arguably one of Tool's finest. Released in 1992.Two songs recorded live new years eve in 91/92 are awesome. The only down side is the length. There's only six songs totalling 27 mins.:( Seven including the hidden track. For everyone's info, every Tool CD has a hidden track at the end of the CD. Just let the cd continue playing after the last song and about 30 secs later the hidden track will play:)
I wasn't expecting this much interest in Tool or I would have mentioned this with my first posting.

The Violent Femmes - Black Girls. It's get those 6&1/2ers moving for sure. Great studio imaging. The music can best be described as Glenn Miller on acid and coffee. The rest of their music is much smoother, but still good.

Tool fans: If you haven't yet, remove the part that the CD clamps into. I did this with my Undertow and it was, uh, well... interesting. It's the only one I had and am curious as to the others.

The hidden track on Undertow is actually 69 seconds after the last listed song. Why '69' I don't know for sure. Sure is one of my favorites!

some Tool cd's for Christmas. The Bends and OK Computer
by Radiohead sound great on the SDA's also.

I played Pink Floyd's Wish you were
here and it was fantastic! Incredible
SDSA imaging throughout and fantastic
bass on Welcome to the Machine.
I recommend this cd to everyone.
I ordered Tools Aenima and Lateralus
so will get to hear them soon.

When i had my 1C's i always got the best SDA effect playing Allman Brothers Instant Live Cd's. Right from the board. Great recordings. Havent heard true Stereo like that since.
