My current CD player is a Denon DCM-380
I'm wondering if anyone here has any opinions on the quality (or lack) of this unit. Honestly I'm not a big fan of the whole five disk carousel thing, but when I bought it years ago I got a deal. Something like a butthair over $100
Plays HDCD, MP3, has digital out. Supposedly something like "Pacific Microsonics PMD-100 filter decoder; 20-bit Burr-Brown DACs"
When I bought it I had heard Burr-Brown DACs were supposed to be good. Of course one spec/chipset does not a CD player make.
Anyone have anything to say about it?

Are you unhappy with the unit? It sounds like you're looking for an excuse to upgrade.
No, it isn't a CD changer trailblazer but the DAC's are a nice choice and Denon makes solid gear.

Pretty much :)
Actually I think it sounds good, but if I got a massive number of people here telling me how they used to have one and they figured out their $99 Sony DVD player sounded 3x better playing CD's ....

Does that use cartridges or is it a spinner?

Spinner ... was a refurb, and boy does it make weird noises when opening and closing!

That seemed to be kind of typical of the Denon carousels.
I used to sell this model a few years back. I was never a big fan of how it looked and always thought the drawer mechanism was too clumsy, but would honestly have to say that it sounds pretty good.
I really think you would have to spend a fair chunk of change to get a noticeable improvement.

I had a Denon mini system, 3 CD changer type and it was by far the noisiest motor I've ever heard. It didn't affect playback or quality but was simply loud.....weird.
