I've been doing some reading on this subject primarily in regards to SACD. It's so damn confusing and from what I have read and do understand there seems to be alot of controversy in regards. I guess what I'm getting at and would like to know is if the conversion of DSD to PCM degrades the sound quality that much? In other words, a SACD player that converts the DSD to PCM vs a player that doesn't convert the signal. I tried doing a search on here but didn't find anything on the subject. Hopefully some of the polk guru's can elaborate on this and explain it in laymans terms please.
Thanks

I don't think it's big enough of a difference to get all hyper over such conversion. Of course, I prefer no conversion.

I think I would to Danny. I had an order placed for a Yamaha universal. PCM only conversion for SACD. Canceled it and picked up an Onkyo SP504 instead. Cost a little more but I think it's a better player. DSD or PCM playback options for SACD according to the manual. Never owned any Onkyo equipment before but this players got some really good reviews. We'll see. :o
