I was thinking about paying a guy local to do this- he'd clean them , then record them for me, @ $20 a pop. But this looks like a much better deal, just don't know if this is a scam or not?

I remember DAK Industries. I once bought a passive subwoofer from them. Huge thing. That was ages ago, I had no idea they were still in business. I might have bought some other stuff from them too, but don't remember what it was. It is a legitimate business, but don't believe everything you read, use some common sense. All you need to do this is a preamp to get your turntable connected to your PC, then some software to record with.

If you were dubbing a mass amount of vinyl, I'd say go for it. But I would have it done professionally for just a few. Plus, AudioFilet has the right idea with making your own version.

So, the question is: TT w/USB, or, TT w/ RCA's> Phono preamp w/ USB> high end sound card w/ software?

I bought a USB TT for my brother a while back, but I'm not sure how it works. They come with their own software, and I think the USB signal is digital & has to be converted by the software. I've never actually done this myself before, but have been planning on it. I have a Nad PP2, and was just going to try & hook that up to my PC & see what happens. I have several different software programs I can try. I also have a Zoom H4 digital recorder. I might try connecting that directly up to my preamp outputs and see what happens. It'll be fun anyway.

IMHO, compact discs of your favorite vinyl recordings is an easy way to go. :D
