Willow if you are using the ps3's wifi then your issue lies there. The built in wifi is the weakest link to an otherwise great system. Hard wire is the way to go.

Maybe go into the internet settings on your PS3 and check what your sigal strength is for the wirless internet. If its below 50-60% then that might be your problem, and the only thing I can suggest is moving the PS3 and your wireless router closer together.

Also check your nat type like bruss suggested.

I'm at 60% I'm on the phone with our ISP as they cut the ethernet cable wich would allow us to use the hardwire system in our IBM homesmartbox. I'm going to get them to come fix it/replace it so I can use this feature. In the mean time I'll see about moving the PS3 around to see where I get better signal.

NAT is your connection type. You at least want a NAT 2. But unfortunately hardwiring the ps3 is really the only way to go.

So that is good. Trust me getting to NAT2 is a major PITA. So you already being their and not knowing it is a very good thing.

So I spent 1hr on the phone with them and they say since I can't proe that their tech cut my line, it's up to me to have it fixed. Ohh they gave us a month free for the issue....great I don't care for a free month I want my cable replaced !!!!

So now I don't know what to do, does anyone have experience with this ****?

I bought a signal booster I'll see how well that works, till I figure how to hardwire the PS

Can you get ahold of an ethernet cable crimper? It's pretty easy to make your own or fix cut cables with one. Just have to get the order of the cables correct and you're good to go.

Or call a local phone installation company to see if they could make you a cable.

I'm looking into that as well, there is another option, that is to find a way to fish the ether cable from the office which is on the 2nd flr up to the attic as there is one of those pre-installed tubes for a sat. cables to run from the roof to the basement, So I could fish it down there to the HT room in the basement.

Now with the range extender, I have not yet been booted.. keeping my fingers crossed, I have 30days to return it, so I'll keep it till the very end and see what it can do for me, that is until I can find a way to hard wire the system.

Why not try out the netgear adapters that let you use your houses electrical wireing for your network. That is if the signal booster doesn't work. Good luck!

OK, soon you won't have to be apprehensive of playing with me on line as I ordered that Netgear item, it's the best way without having to do lots of work. I can't wait !

JF, I've got maybe 100 feet of cat5 left over from wiring my apt.

I'm out of connectors, but I have the tool and the experience. Let me know if you need a bailout. Connectors will cost you $ 10 at most (should be $ 0,50 a piece in my book) plus a few beers for my labor.

Well right now, the ethernet cable is 50' long and running from the office on the 2nd floor down the open staircase to the HT room in the basement, there is no way this is WAF. But it's been ok'd till I get that Netgear wired system.
