View Full Version : Price / components of new HT
Hi, having done some homework, do the following components / price sound right, and is there anything I can do for less? Am I missing anything for a system to last several years?
Thank you.

Am I the only one that think a PS3 is a better choice for blu-ray right now? It can also serve as a media host with wireless for streaming music from your PC. Oh yeah you can play a game or two also.

Alot of people think that. I heard that it is a quality Blue-Ray player and may be the only one that can be upgraded via firmware (Blue-Ray specs are constantly being updated). I don't have one but perhaps the only negatives I can think of is:
- external power supply?
- Oval shape, not traditional rectangular component
- fan noise?
These are perhaps minor though.

I think the PS3 sales are what tipped the movie industry into supporting Blu-Ray and not HD-DVD.

It appears that back yard deals from SONY gave Toshiba a good incentive to resign the standard. Personally I am sticking with an upconverting DVD player.

Hello Bruce,
It sounds like a great system. Although your AVR can drive the RTi10's, a lot of people recommend a separate amp. You could probably pick up a used one here for under $250. Some other points:
- I think the A6 is closer to $400
- Did you think about color selection? The RTi10's are hard to find in Cherry at that price unless you can find one on CL or Ebay.
- Don't forget the wiring. It can add up.
- You may also in the future consider a 7 channel setup.

Bruce try tweeter for some cherry rti10's
Thank you for your responses. So, my last idea / question on this, is:
Should I invest in a separate receiver for the speakers as I already own a Denon AVR1010 receiver, or can the onkyo receiver run the whole system or can the Denon run the whole system or should I just buy everything and see what happens with the Denon?
Thank you.

The PS3 does NOT have an external power supply...all it comes with is a detachable power cord like just about every other piece of equipment made.
Hi and thank you - I just want to be sure I understand - the Panasonic unit definitely needs its own receiver, yes? And do you think a Denon receiver used for a previous surround sound setup (gone now) can be that receiver and I should then use the onkyo receiver for the rest? Am I thinking this out correctly?
