I use an Onkyo receiver to run most of my speakers but have an Adcom GFA 555 running my main fronts. Can I plug my Adcom into the Onkyo so all I have to do is turn on the Onkyo to activate the Adcom's power ?

What is the power limits on the receiver? If your amplifier is less wattage than your receiver allows, then yes!

I don't know if I'd recommend that, those auxiliary outlets on receivers aren't usually designed for high-amperage devices like amplifiers.

No you can't. The switched outlets on the back of recievers is usually limited to 100 to 150 watts.

You could use a device like this:

No, that's not a smart idea.

I thought I might have a problem with wattage doing this. Thanks for the advice.

Don't plug the amp into your Onkyo's switched outlet, you'll blow up the receiver's power supply (don't ask how I know, but its the reason why I no longer have my TX-SR500).

Smoking an Onkyo sounds like a bad idea, from any angle...

Haha, seriously though they must have little or no internal protection...

Unless you have the upgrade bug, and a significant other;)

I wouldn't simply due to the current start up needed for the amp. Adding that to the Onkyo is even greater current draw.
