Room Tweaking

I did some tweaking in my main 2 channel listening room, finished it up today. Believe it or not, it made a 100% improvement. Take a look.

Looks awesome. I like the sound panels. I bet you get crazy imaging. The LSi9 are excellent speakers. Can't believe I almost sold my pair.

I just finished up my room also. The acoustical panels I used made a night and day difference also. I don't know what I was listening to before.:eek:

Is that a foam type acoustical panel?

What changes did you get form the treaments? Sound wise.

where did you buy the foam treatment? is it cheaper than the fiberglass panels like from ACS?

The foam treatment did make quite a difference, that room was pretty bad, a lot of slap echo and just sound bouncing all over the place. It's pretty good now, but I still need to get something down on the floor there, some good rugs I guess should do it. The foam was not all that expensive and it seems to work well, it's actually pretty nice stuff, I got most of it on eBay here:

partsexpress also has acoustic foam and paneling, or at least they used too...

ill bet there is a lot of bass in there. 2" foam directly contacting the walls isnt doing much for anything but high frequencies. sometimes this seems to work out, as the "hyped" sound often sounds "good" to some folks.
"wow, those speakers have great bass response".
more often though, the room gets a little (or a lot) tubby sounding, and can fatigue your ears very quickly. also, does it carry a flame retardant rating? some of that stuff gets really really nasty if it burns (remember "the station"?). save for squelching high frequency flutter, the stuff in the corners is probably helping more than anything. a "real" broadband bass trap would make a big difference in there, IMO, as youve already got the high end tamed. and truly, you might leave the rug alone, as it the frequencies that it will affect have already been "adjusted" by the foam, (somewhat dependent on the carpet and any padding, of course). the floor reflection might keep the room from becoming too dull and small sounding.

I own an SVS. For your setup, I would recomend a HSU subwoofer (I own one of these also). It is more musical. The SVS can't be beat for the HT special effects, but the HSU is much better for music.
