View Full Version : Stupid Sub Wiring Question

Hey all, my first post here, so complete noob as it stands.
I've just purchased and built a box for two MM2124 SVC subs. I'm going to use my current a800t monoblock audiobahn amp(yeah i know it's not great quality but i can't afford a new one atm) to power them.
I'm wiring them in parallel which satisfies my power/resistence requirements..
My only problem is actually implementing it. I was initially going to just install a terminal in the side of the box and have two wires running off the positive and negative terminals two each of the speakers, but i've since heard there's a fair bit of signal loss in using a terminal.
So my question in short is how do i wire my subs in parallel with minimal signal loss where i split my positive and negative wires? If that makes sense..
Any help is much appreciated. Cheers.. :)

This should be posted in the Auto section, but...
If you just run the wires it will be fine. I have never seen that amount of loss in a subwoofer setup. Install the single set of binding posts in the side, wire it up, and you'll be good to go.

this is probably a stupid question, but would you be able to recommend a type and brand of binding post? I've got 14mm MDF to sink them in to.

just the site, at first glance it looks pretty useless.. but after looking for a bit longer it might actually have some useful stuff.
Is it okay if i retract that last question? :o
Go easy, i'm new to this stuff.

Then I wouldn't jump the gun like you did, but here's your one freebie. Any kind of binding posts will work. I think these were the ones previously mentioned: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=091-600

I like to use smaller diameter terminal cups myself because they are more solid(more rigid).
Apexjr is a great seller. Partsexpress is great too.

Well, I personally felt differently, but after explaining the reasoning for your opinion so thoroughly, I just may have to reconsider my position.

Hey, disco, don't let the turkeys get you down! Welcome to the club. If you notice, the guys with the terse (stupid) responses only have a few posts, they are probably just trying to get their post count up so they could try to hawk something in the Flea Market.

Hmmmm......are you implying that my response was terse and that I'm just trying to get my post count up in order to hawk something in the Flea Market?

No, the posts I was referring to were 2 and 3 posts above yours.
You'll note I said they only had a few posts. As someone with 118 posts, I wouldn't call your post count "just a few". ;)
