View Full Version : SignalCable question on wiring
Hi,
I spoke with Signal Wire today and a question came up about the following:
With the Onkyo TXSR805 receiver and Panasonic BD30K Blu-ray DVD, can the HDMI cable carry audio signals or do I need an additional co-axial cable?
He also suggested the 'Ultra' speaker wire for the center (CSIA6) speaker and front speakers (FXiA4) and 'classic' wire for the rear speakers (RTi10's).
Thank you.

Not sure if this helps, but I have the Onkyo SR805 as well, and with an older Pioneer DV46AV DVD/SACD player connected via HDMI. The DVD portion sends all of its video and audio just fine via HDMI only-no need for the optical or digital coax connection. The SR805 shoulkd be able to support all the latest (DVD) audio signals via the HDMI cable alone.
Not the same for the SACD portion which apparently still requires the multichannel outs/ins. I think that is a limitation of my Pioneer though-still trying to figure that out.
You're using the FXis for your mains and the Rtis for your rears? Or is that backwards?

yup.
Hi,
Thank you very much for the answer to my question.

I thought I was suppose to use the FX's for the rear and the smaller FxiA4's for the front. I asked this question and the answer was that it was ok this way, but is it wrong? or backwards or the wrong stuff??
Thank you.

PLEASE post your reactions to the Pan Blu-Ray.
I'd be interested in knowing if you get full audio res when playing newer digital formats (true hd etc) when running thru HDMI.

SACD is analog output only. no digital out from SACD's

With HDMI 1.2 and higher you CAN output the SACD layer via HDMI. I've tested with non-hybrid SACDS just to make sure (using Yamaha dvdc961/ Onkyo 705).
You may still have to pour thru both components manuals to make damn sure...
The catch: it's output as PCM (at least on my unit) - so when output via HDMI I assume some conversion is going on. Can't say I hear much of a difference.

I tried to get the sacd to pump via hdmi, but i get nothing. The pioneer manual eludes to being able to do it via PCM over HDMI, but all those options are grayed out for me on the player. I haven't had the chance to look into it more since I already went through all the effort to hook up interconnects. I guess I'll look into it a bit more.

the question is whether it will do DSD over HDMI
Don't sweat it. SACD via HDMI is no biggy it's mostly a convenience factor) SACD's often sound best over analog cables anyway (assuming you have a good quality player.)
Is your Pioneer 1.2 or higher? When time permits scan a pdf copy your players manual... for "DSD", "SACD" SA-CD, & or Super Audio CD. If there's no obvious solution, call Pioneer and ask.
In the meantime, just have fun listening. Wish I had the 805.
