Sorbomat Question

I was flipping through my albums when I came across a Sorbogel Record Mat I purchased from HearingImpaired (I think) along with the "clamp".

Now I don't know if this is normal, but this mat is a pain in the ass. You have to peel the record off the thing and it doesn't come off that easily. And as it is coming off, assuming you didn't lift the whole thing off the platter to begin with, there's enough static electricity generated to light a baseball stadium at night. I mean, you can hear the snap crackle pop of static electricity so much that the cartridge picked it up and sent it to the speakers!

Am I doing something wrong? Or is this supposed to be normal?

Try a dryer sheet; that helps my static electricity. :D

Joe (HI) may feel differently, but I'd never put Sobo on anything I was going to play.

I wouldn't use that mat if a gun was pointed at my head. Sorbothane collects every minute bit of dust and foreign material it can attract and leaves a residue on my fingertips which is doing the same to your LP's. It is great for isolation properties, but this is not a proper application of this product IMO.

Don't use Sorbothane for anything other than Isolation or Stopping something from slipping around. I use it to hold two set's of Paradigm speakers together in a stacked configuration. I've never seen any residue though ?
