How to tell what year SDAs were manufacured.......

Just curious, is there a way to tell what year my SDA 1C's were manufactured? Serial Number, stamped? The serial number is 7331.

The serial number vs date of manufacture is not available.

You can get it by pulling one or more mid-bass drivers and looking at the date stamped/written on the back. It's usually on the crossover as well.

Are your 1C's pin/blade or blade/blade (referring to the cable that connects between them).

Very early 1C's used a blade/blade connection.

Right and left most likely have a different serial #. It appears that with a 7331 serial number that speaker is compatible to use a non-common ground amp IF you have the AI-1 interphase cable. File that away for future reference and look at the serial number on the other speaker and let us know.

P.s. My 1C serial #'s are 11713 and 11604 so I would guess yours are earlier models but not the earliest.

There are 5 generations of SDA models. The 1C's are in the fourth generation and were produced from 1987-1990 but there could have been models produced in late 1986 and early 1991. No way to tell for sure an exact date of production.

Exactly! That's the only way I could determine my date of manufacture. Excellent advice!

That's a great rule of thumb but many times the drivers have been replaced or the production date coincides with the production date of the driver not nec the speaker model. But I'm sure if the drivers are original the dates will be close.

When I sold Polk our driver replacement stock always had the production date the driver was manufactured. So if we replaced an sl2000 with production date Mar. 1990 that may have gone into and RTA 12 which was actually manufactured in 1986.

I assume it's the same for drivers from the factory to a certain extent. The info on the drivers will get you in the ball park. I've never looked for a production date on a crossover but that sounds like it would be even better and more consistent.

Yes - I bought these in 2004 so I am the second owner. I have another pair that I bought in 1990 and their serial number is 6xxx so I know they are built in 1990 or after. Does that make sense?

The pair I bought in 2004 second hand has the serial numbers as:

Left Channel 7331
Right Channel 11024

It just seems odd that those numbers are so far apart.

The pair I bought new in 1990 has the left channel as 6351 and the right channel as 6299. The interconnect for this pair is blade/blade.

Well based on that information I would think this pair was made in 1990 or early 1991.

Most of my drivers on my 1.2tl's say 4/12/89 but the side panels say 4/24/89. So I guess the side panels were put on just before they shipped the speakers?

No, they went back in time and installed them earlier...the date is just to confuse you.

It does seem a little far apart. My 1C's are 9087 & 9591. The original owner showed me a sales receipt from 1989. They are pin/blade. I haven't bothered to open them up - too busy listening to them.
