Where might your place be ?

Serendipity
04-17-2008, 03:30 PM
I'm in NY.

Serendipity
04-17-2008, 03:32 PM
That's in Queens, BTW.

I have a wedding and christening coming up, if it doesn't fall on either date, I should be able to make it.

Serendipity
04-17-2008, 03:49 PM
It's definitely going to be on a Saturday or a Sunday.

Serendipity
04-17-2008, 03:52 PM
Can anyone bring gear? We could set up a temp. 2-channel system in another room or a HT (I don't have a projector yet)...

Lasareath
04-17-2008, 07:25 PM
I should be able to bring my OPPO 980H and maybe I will lug my SRS 2's over. it all depends how much sleep I have. the 2's are at my parent's house now in south Jersey, So i'll have to go pick them up and when I'm done I will have to bring them back because the WAF doesn't know that they exist yet ;)

polrbehr
04-17-2008, 07:40 PM
I could possibly bring some gear to try out, too.

I am trying to do another meet at my house on May 30th (I was about to start a thread on that any day now), so as long as the days don't conflict with each other, I can be there.

BTW, if you can make it out here on the 30th, you're more than welcome.

Ditto for you too, Sal.

That's funny, I was thinking about the 31st, maybe we could do one after another? ;)

Actually the 24th would be better due to the fact that I start my Advanced Chem classes right after that... so I'm thinking something like the 24th or the 31st?

Serendipity
04-17-2008, 07:50 PM
Oh BTW, what kind of gear do you have in mind?

I don't have a display right now nor a surround setup, so anything from speakers to sources to projectors would be great!!

Also, I don't have a ceiling either, as I'm still in the process of building my HT.

polrbehr
04-17-2008, 07:51 PM
Either day is fine, just that the weekend of the 24th is Memorial Day weekend; may be some who are unable to attend because of that? Back-to-back works for me.

OK, I'm liking my new Adcom/Parasound setup a LOT, I can possibly bring that along to test out?
All of my other stuff is almost impossible to move around, though.

Serendipity
04-17-2008, 07:55 PM
Sure, I'll keep that in mind. The 24th would be a great weekend though because I will be very busy starting June 1st.

If possible, we can set up another small 2-channel rig, as Sal might be bringing some speakers (not sure yet).

Serendipity
04-17-2008, 07:58 PM

Sure, I'd love to hear how a good amp sounds like on my system (I don't even have an amp right now, only a receiver)

Do you have any sources that are easy to move around? Right now I only have the Onkyo CDP and a HTPC, and Sal said he might bring a few things, so maybe we could do a CDP shootout...

Ruh-roh.

Tell them the Adcom I want to bring is only 60wpc. That should ease their mind a little. ;)

Or, ask Sal to lug over his 1.2tl's... they will take one look, faint, and be out for at least two or three hours.

Serendipity
04-18-2008, 06:27 PM
I remember Sal saying something like "it's not loud enough," and I told Sal, "You don't think this is loud? You should get your hearing checked!!"

PM me your parents phone number, I'll talk to them.

I don't think my dad was too happy about the levels that Sal was blasting his system at...

I remember Sal saying something like "it's not loud enough," and I told Sal, "You don't think this is loud? You should get your hearing checked!!"

You have to admit... that was a pretty cool demo though, wasn't it?? :D

Serendipity
04-18-2008, 06:39 PM
You weren't there that time, when Sal had his amps turned up to clipping and his 1.2TLs' drivers were moving back and forth violently....

I stand by my last post.

Serendipity

You have to admit... that was a pretty cool demo though, wasn't it?? :D

No, my ears were ringing for a while...

Why would you want to listen that loud anyways? I'd be concerned about the 1.2TL's, the drivers were moving quite a lot... not necessarily a good thing.

BaggedLancer
04-18-2008, 06:52 PM

Serendipity

Sorry, my place is small.

Lasareath
04-18-2008, 08:22 PM
How about...no

You weren't there that time, when Sal had his amps turned up to clipping and his 1.2TLs' drivers were moving back and forth violently....

LOL, I cant find a bass brace anyplace, I'm sorry :(

Lasareath
04-18-2008, 08:23 PM
Sorry, my place is small.

And my mom/dad really isn't okay with the idea. He said it might be okay with people we already met like Trey, Sal, Face, Harry, etc. but that's about it...

BOOO, send them away to a broadway show, don't tell them anybody is coming over ;)

Serendipity
04-18-2008, 08:44 PM
No seriously, Sal, Mike, Kelley, Harry, and Trey should be able to come over, we should be able to work something out. I think my dad's more worried about someone new with like 6 posts joining in...

Lasareath
04-18-2008, 08:49 PM
No seriously, Sal, Mike, Kelley, Harry, and Trey should be able to come over, we should be able to work something out. I think my dad's more worried about someone new with like 6 posts joining in...

I think you should post up top and state only members with 200 posts or more can attend.

Serendipity
04-18-2008, 08:53 PM
I think you should post up top and state only members with 200 posts or more can attend.

Sure, I can see that.

Lasareath
04-18-2008, 09:00 PM
Sure, I can see that.

But I think in order for this to pass with my mom/dad, I'll have to restrict this to you, Trey, Mike, Harry, and Kelley. Because anyone can post 200 posts in one day, just look at the FS threads started by people posting like 50 posts in a hour...

Now you are being paranoid. I'm sure nobody wants to go to your house that bad that they are going to post 350 posts in one day. LOL

If you intended to have a party with only those 6 people then you should never have created this post. you should have sent PM's to the 6 of us and said I'm having a gathering and the date is XX/XX/XX

Why have an open forum post if only 6 people can attend?

There's at least 5 other NJ/NY polkies I know that have over 350 posts that may want to attend, Are you going to tell them no?

Sal, for those 5 members that you know, do you know them well?

Lasareath

This is a stereo gathering not a knitting party.

Maybe in 5 to 7 years when you have your place, then you can invite anybody you wish and turn it up as much as you want!

Serendipity
04-18-2008, 10:25 PM
I've actually turned the Onkyo to max...it didn't get very loud.

Reason is, the 4-ohm impedance of the DefTechs causes the receiver to limit current, so it didn't get very loud. I think the Onkyo limits current at 52W*5, far from the 100*7 its rated at.

Serendipity
04-18-2008, 10:33 PM

Sure, but if we want to do this, it's either keep things at a responsible level or we won't have it at all.

Your dad will never be the same....and he wouldn't let you browse this forum anymore.

I recommend that you send out permission slips to all Polk members parents and have them get signed and notarized and returned to you prior to them coming to your event. Sounds like they are gonna need it.

Edit: This is open to members with 350+ posts, sorry...

Wow, my replying in this very thread raised my post count just enough... whew! ;)

Well, you can always head out here on the 30th if you want, no parental issues here ;).

Just messin' with ya, appadv, don't take me seriously, OK?

And even though it's on a Friday, you should be able to take a class off once in a while; this is as good a reason as any to do so. IMHO.

Sal, any belly flops will need to be done in the pool, OK?:D (with any luck it will be open and full of water, too)

Serendipity

Do you live close to a railroad station? I think I *might* be able to take the LIRR to your place from the Port Jefferson station...

polrbehr
04-20-2008, 03:04 PM
Not trying to be a wiseass; the answer is yes... and no.

I am 3 min. from the Riverhead LIRR station. However, that does not help you at all if you are coming from Port Jeff (2 totally different branches :(). You would have to head west to Hicksville, IIRC, then take the Ronkonkoma branch out here. Not worth it, IMO; it would be cheaper and faster for you to take a cab. Maybe we can come up with something for you?

Serendipity
04-20-2008, 03:21 PM
When you say 3 minutes from the station, is that by car? Or just walking?

I think I can make it.

polrbehr
04-20-2008, 03:26 PM
Car.

But someone can easily get you from there to here, no problem.

Serendipity
04-20-2008, 03:32 PM
How about taking the train from the Jamaica branch, would that be easier?

Lasareath

Are you allowed to go by yourself Alex?, You're not taking your Daddy with you?, LOL

Serendipity

Well...

I used to work in Manhattan (3rd Avenue) and I don't have any issues with taking the train.

Serendipity

polrbehr
04-20-2008, 05:18 PM

Seeing as how you can get anywhere the LIRR goes to from Jamaica, I'd say yes.

Just make sure you're on the Ronkonkoma branch, eastbound.
