will be triggering the velodyne sms-1 and a power amp from the av processor.
can i use a Y from the avp or do i have to go (avp to sms-1) and (avp to amp)?

You can use a splitter if you want.

I used to use one of these to trigger two amps. No problems.

One thing about using a splitter (and the problem that I ran into) was that some components require a certain level of milliamps. 30 in my case and when I ran a splitter it dropped the out put to about 18 on either side. Not enough to power the trigger.
I think in most cases it would work however.
