When I first installed my cartridge, I just lined it up by eye. Well, I was way off. I found a site where you can get a free copy of a cartridge alignment tool. I would imagine most everyone here has one, but if you're like me and need one HERE (http://www.enjoythemusic.com/freestuff.htm) it is. I thought it worked pretty good. My top end really came alive.

I have downloaded that before but I have not been able to get the hole punched in right to put over the spindle. Any suggestions?

I used and exact-o (sp) knife. But I may try a bullet cartridge and a hammer next time. Maybe a 38. cal. I think a 22. cal might be a little small. I need to make sure it's been fired.

I tried a hole punch but it is nearly impossible to get it centered and it is to small. I will try the exacto knife but I think it would be hard to get that perfect also.

If you use a hole punch - turn it upside down so you are looking through the hole. You can see the crosshairs correctly and can easily punch the hole centered. The punch size could be a factor but you will be very close.

Thanks. I can't even describe the difference but it is night and day. Kind of like buying a completely new cartridge or turntable and being blown away at how much better it sounds. All this on a techniques sl-1800 and a AT440MLa cartridge.
