View Full Version : My Horrible Day

Yesterday I was dispatched to a domestic call with my partner. We arrive and it's the usual. The two parties and the family members are all drama and involved and trying to get our attention and tell their story all at once.

Meanwhlle, their little dog , a cute miniature Rat Terrier gets out and is running up and down the street and they are doing nothing to catch him.

My partner and I tell them countless times to get the dog before it gets hit by a car. They keep talking to us and each other. We tell them again. Get the dog!

So what happens? A car comes down the street and runs over the dog. Right in front of us. It yelps and crumples in some unnatural pose. I think it's neck is mostly broken. Then it dies.

I have never lost my cool on the job. Never. Until yesterday. I will just leave it at that.

I have never been so upset at work since my shooting in 2004. In fact, I think this was worse.

Call me sensitive. I don't care. It was just a horrible day.

Poor thing is chasing slow squirrels now. Go buy yourself something nice Darla, maybe it'll help. You can call me sensitive too, but I don't want you calling me that.

Sorry to hear of your day, but from what you have told us - it was quick and the dog may be happier where he is now.

Some people shouldn't be allowed to own pets. On the bright side, today can only be better! :D

Damn, that's terrible. People are so stupid. That is one thing I never want to witness in my life. Did they have kids? The kids take it the hardest when a family pet meets it's demise. Sorry you had to witness it.

I don't know how anyone would wanna be a cop.....other than the decent money I guess. However, constantly seeing people at their worst would make me want to shoot somebody. Hope you are off today and can just relax.

Regards,
Mike

Time to get that VPI spinning!

Good luck with today, as someone else said it can be only better than the day before.

Tough day Darla, I feel for you. I could not do your job and even I considered it at one time years ago. I would not have the patience to deal with some people. I agree with the previous post that some people should not own pets yet alone children. Hope things get better.

What boggles my mind is that after a day of seeing people at their worst, she comes home and logs onto Club Polk. Me thinks wingnut may be a masochist.. haha

Sorry to hear of the rotten day Darla. Kick back, relax, blast a few tunes..

It's good to be concerned because that means you care but be thankful it wasn't your drama and it wasn't your dog and it wasn't a kid instead of the dog. Don't let someone else's problems become your problems. You already have enough of your own :D (just kidding)

Sorry to hear about your day. To see an animal killed like that is a gut rencher for sure. I hope you came down hard on those nit wits that caused the poor dogs dimise. More than likely people like that could give two hoots about the poor dog. It's a shame. I guess it's all in a day's work, but it still sucks!!

You did what you could. You can't control everything. SH*t happens. ;)

Seems there are way too many self centered assholes that believe everything revolves around them and their petty little issues. Because of their "DRAMA" two LEOs time was wasted, an innocent little animal was killed, the driver of the car was probably sick over it, and Darla has another mental scar.

Gee...I hope their problems were worth all the pain they caused....ASSHOLES!

sorry about your terrible day Darla... hope that doesn't come around again.

While i'm not an officer of the peace... working in the media like I does.. i have to respond to domestic fights, argument too. it's part of my job. I was at one today.. I hate nothing more about my job then photographing and being at the house of a domestic situation. it really sucks.

Add to that what Darla had to go thru watching a dog die right in front of her eyes.. that's twice as bad.

To be sensitive in your situation is a blessing, not to have felt anything would have been a curse. I see these small individuals after someone has chosen to ignore tham and place them in harms way through their ignorance. It drains you and leaves you questioning the world sometimes. Thank you for doing the job you do! Keep feeling for that is what matters at the core. Never let anything close off your caring spirit!

Why is it that whenever these idiots cause problems it seems to always be the innocent bystander or the person trying to help or helpless animal that pays the price? It seems to me that justice be better served if the ones causing the problem would get run over by a bus or fall off a cliff...then all would be well. One less problem for society. Unfortunately...it rarely seems to happen that way.

By the way, it's a birthday or something for B & J's and they're selling it today on the cheap - around here anyway. My daughter told me about it, so I'm not sure of the specifics but hey, from 1 B & J's lover to another, go git you some!
