Hey JDOGG you gotta update this post when you get that emotiva; I havent heard much about them, but what I have has been good. How do you like your 5500 for that matter?? I have been looking at Adcom and Rotel amps, but cant decide on a 2 or 3 channel setup. The only drawback I saw to the 5500 is the lack of a 12volt trigger (I am exceedingly lazy). Is the amp quite running?? Hard hitting bass?? How are the mids and highs?

The amp is dead silent when on. I love it. Way more impact and slam than the Elite. The highs are insane, partly because the Klipschs have horns. I am listening to them right now and I feel like I am at the concert. No comparison between the receiver and amp(although it did drive the 7's quite nicely, and does drive the 25's nicely now too). As far as the Emotiva, it is supposed to be out by June, so I will definitely post up about it. But I will only have 2 channel until I can get there 5 channel amp. But I am ok with that because I listen to music more anyways.

I just recieved and setup a mmc-1 last night.I am using Carver TFM24's for all channels. My wife heard the difference(I was using a Denon avr)right away.In two channel the sound stage is wider,The bass is much tighter and highs crisp. I was able to turn down the volume and still heard detail that didn't seem to be there before. In surround I was able to turn down the volume on the center speaker and again all sound from all speakers was more detailed. My speakers are 3.1 tl's, csi5,fxi5 and paradigm pw 2200 v2.

Thanks for sharing 2-tall, I can't wait until they start shipping the UMC-1's! Then I'm gonna order an XPA-5.

i also have my pre-order in for the umc-1, but read somewhere yesterday that they might be delayed until after summer. The chip manufacturer is the hold up. I have an emotiva lpa-1 amp and the company has great service. Im thinking of selling my amp and buying the xpa-5

Why can't you wait? Every other manufacturer is gonna be delayed while they wait on the latest chip releases. Besides, I doubt if there's anything on the market right now that will be better or just as good as the UMC-1 in its price range. I suggest getting what you can right now, and that means jumping on the XPA-5 while it's currently in stock.

LOL! God forbid anyone utilize a bit of patience to get what they really want, rather than to just get SOMETHING to say they got it NOW!
How sad.

I pre-ordered the UMC-1 and I'm gonna wait for as long as it takes. I also pre-ordered the XPA-2 three months ago and I'm gonna wait a couple more months until it is in stock. Sure, I could grow impatient and buy another amp in the meantime, but it won't be what I want.

Early B-
Do you think the LPA-1 would be a sonic improvement over my B&K 2220 Reference amp? Also why get the XPA-2 when the XPA-5 is the same price without the wait?

I would wait but if I sold my receiver I would have no pre amp.

I don't know. I've never heard a B&K amp.

I already have an LPA-1 for HT. I want the XPA-2 for 2-channel listening.

Then don't sell your receiver yet. If you do, what do you plan to replace it with?

:D ROTFLMAO!!! I think he wants to replace it with the UMC-1, but doesn't want until this Summer to do so! Who knows, he just might have a nervous breakdown if he is forced to continuing to use his receiver while waiting for the UMC-1 that he REALLY wants. Because he really wants to upgrade NOW!!! :D:D:D

Just sent a message to emotiva, looks like I will be getting the umc-1 and the xpa-5.
I am not an expert on this stuff but a little direction from earlyb pointed me to emotiva and I am confident that this setup will leave me with nothing left to want in the electronics end of things. Otherwise I would have either spent the same amount of money on another avr that would have left me with more to want or a b&k setup that would have left me with a credit card bill, and I really like to avoid those like the plague.
I actually hope they are not available till at least september, I don't like to spend to much time indoors during the summer but with that new setup I might be tempted, I just don't need that kind of distraction untill the days get a lot shorter ;)

I remember being on the pre-order list for the LMC-1 for 4 months before canceling, it ended up being delayed over a year from it's original release date. It then took over 8 months for them to work out the bugs, some of which still exist according to the Emotiva thread on AVS.
No offense to those waiting, as I am also very curious about this piece, but there is no way I would be one of the first to get one, not with Emotiva's track record.

You make some valid points.
I'd be interested in knowing what other pre/pro options are currently available in the price range with similar features and similar chipset as the UMC-1 will have. Oh, and for all of you current Emotiva pre/pro owners, take off 40% of the $699 initial price tag for the UMC-1. So if you can find a similar NIB pre/pro for $419.40, then buy it now. Otherwise, be patient.

Any new processor with update software should be put on back burner till the first update is released. Think of it as a service pack in Windows terms.
