Saw a sneak peek tonight and it was a fun movie! I really enjoyed it and it was totally worth seeing in the theater. I don't remember much from the Iron Man comics so I can't say how close it followed the story. It doesn't matter though, it was cool!

Does it matter?
Honestly, the stuff that Iron Man does in the comics is beyond extreme. To translate it to live action you need CGI.
But again, why does it matter? Personally I don't really care. I don't scrutinize movies to that extent. It's just story time with Uncle Screenwriter for me. I throughly enjoyed and I'm considering seeing it again when the buzz dies down a bit.

Agreed. If it is an action/adventure/comic based movie then you are going to have CGI affects. What matters is how believable or real looking They are.
Some of them have stuff that just looks so fake it brings down the whole movie. I Am Legend comes to mind with extremely bad cgi affects.

Just bought my tickets off Fandango for the 9:50 showing and cant wait! Have heard nothing but good things about it.
As for RD Jr, I was glad he was in it. I think he's an excellent actor and I believe a top notch, excellent actor can make the part even if he's not your first pick. Take Michael Keaton in Batman. The dude is 5'1" but still made a great Batman!
Same goes for CGI, if theyre dont well, I have no problem at all if theyre used a ton in a movie. If its gone well I actually prefer it.

So, is there a legal limit to how many entertainment things can use the words Iron Man in their titles? This movie is based on some sort of comic, right? Then there's the Black Sabbath song (which apparently isn't based on the aforesaid comic). Then there's the Pete Townshend concept/opera thingy, which was based on a children's book by (IIRC) someone named Hughes.
Heck, our son used to have a Timex watch called "Ironman".
What is the big fugging infatuation with ferrous people? I don't get it...

Definitely go see this! It rocked!!!
Robert Downey JR was awesome! Better than Id expected him to be. The special effects were top notch and the story, while a little fantastic, was still reasonable and well written. There were several funny parts in it as well. The action scenes, especially the battle with Iron Man in the mid east village, was unreal! Actually had people standing up and applauding when he shoots that little missile at that tank and walks away!
The only thing I didnt like was the black dude. He looks like he's 12 years old. Didnt look like a military colonel. But that was no big deal. Really I have found nothing else to bitch about.
Jeff Bridges, as usual, was superb and Gweneth Paltrow did an awesome job.
All in all a great movie and definitely worth fighting the crowds and stupid teenagers to watch it. Will be buying it as soon as it comes out on DVD as well.
9 out of 10!

I took my 9 year old and he loved it. It is pretty tame violence wise. There is a really short semi sex scene with Tony Stark rolling around with a chick in panites. No language stood out. In fact I don't remember any bad words. I'd take them both.
It made the mistake of taking my 9 year old son to Beowolf. That movie was PG 13 but it was really R all the way. Nudity, extreme violence and gore. Oooops:eek:

Just got back from my second viewing, even better the second time around. This is such a fantastic film in all aspects. Can't wait for 2010!
Cool flick!! R.D. Jr. did an amazing job as usual. I still can't figure out why anyone thought he was the wrong pick for the lead role. He can pull off any type of character and is probably one of the greatest actors of my generation. I'm glad he's picked himself up by the bootstraps....most had written him off as a lost cause many, many years ago.

Honestly, when I heard he was the pick for Tony Stark, his past jumped in to my head and how his problems butchered a few of his performances. I was leery but as I thought about it, I couldn't think of a better guy to do it. He has the persona completely. His real life parallels the fictional life of Tony Stark in some respects too.
There are other actors in the recent glut of comic book movies that are great fits and others that suck. The Hulk comes to mind and honestly, IMO, Eric Bana was an excellent Banner but Ed Norton seems to be lacking and that new one which is a do-over seems to be more preachy than it needs to be.
Christian Bale makes an awesome Bruce Wayne IMO too.
But Toby Maguire's Spiderman is a little too "regular guy"-ish for me.
But Ron Perlman as Hellboy is a perfect casting!
X-Men is rife with goods and bads. Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, he's done an excellent job! Patrick Stewart as Prof. Xavier and Ian McClellan as Magneto both pinned their characters down perfectly.
Actually, Nicholas Cage and Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider was pretty decent I thought too. It was a pretty campy movie but overall I thought he did a decent job.

I'm going to try to make it out this weekend to see Iron Man.
Going off of Jstas' comments, I bet Heath Ledger totally owns Joker in the Dark Knight. I loved what i saw in the trailers. Just a shame on his passing. Bale rules as Batman/Bruce Wayne.
The Hulk is a wait for DVD for me. The first did little for me and this one may be the same.
Now personally, I thought Brandon Routh was perfect as the new Superman. I really hope they get another of those going. Please, no more Lex Luthor laying Kryptonite on him. I loved the movie, but how about maybe Doomsday pushing Supes to the limit.

Just saw this this afternoon.
All I can say is....WOW! Great movie, bar none!
Yes, it had action, tons of COOL gadgets, gizmos, special effects, etc. All those things were really good and made it very interesting. However, it also had great actors playing their roles very well. I can't think of anybody else who would've been more suited to one of those roles. I think they all did an awesome job!
Definitely a must buy!

I agree! Theyve got casting for superheroes down pretty solid these days. Toby MacGuire is a little too nerdy for Peter Parker IMO. I like how he plays it but I wish he was about 6" taller. Dont remember Spiderman ever being 5'2". But oh well, gotta take the good with the bad - he does a pretty good job.
Christian Bale is awesome as Batman AND as Bruce Wayne. The ONLY thing I dont like about him is when he's in the Batman costume, he looks like he's chewing his face when he talks. Michael Keaton was also an awesome Batman but not as good a Bruce Wayne as Bale....and Keaton has that whole 5'2" thing going on.
Ron Pearlman is great in anything he does! I love that guy. His character in Blade 2 was great I thought.
Dony like anything Nick Cage does. Nothing personal against him, just always sounds like he's got a runny nose and it bugs the crap out of me. Plus he just looks funny.
Xmen was perfectly cast all the way thru. Couldnt have picked a better cast myself.
I really like Ed Norton. Like Robert Downey Jr, Norton is a superb actor and while he's not quite RD Jr's level he is still good enough that I think he can pull off pretty much any role.

Dude, Ed Norton and Ewan McGregor are at the top of my list when it comes to be a versatile actor. Norton can go from nerdy to bada$$. Watch Rounders and then pop in American History X. Can't believe it's the same guy.
McGregor can go from musical boheimian to light sabring.
Bale is right there with them as well.
Downey Jr. is good in his own respect as an actor, but I certainly wouldn't say he's a level about Norton. Maybe the other way around.

Norton is my favorite actor. If you look at his roles (Primal Fear - GREAT movie, American History X, Rounders, Fight Club, The Italian Job, The Illusionist, etc.), no other actor in his age group really comes close. He's not even 40 years old and has a LOT of good / great movies to his name. I think he will be a good Hulk and the Pride & Glory movie is getting some good hype.

Punisher: War Zone has already been filmed, is in post-production, and is set to come out December 5th. No Thomas Jane though. He has been replaced by Ray Stevenson (Rome, King Arthur), who I really like as an actor but I'm not sure how well he'll fit in the role (especially considering he's Irish). Dominic West (300, The Wire) is playing Jigsaw, which seems like a pretty good fit to me. The supporting cast is Julie Benz (Dexter, Rambo), Doug Hutchison (The Green Mile), and Wayne Knight (Seinfeld).
Keep your expectations suitably low. It's being directed by Lexi Alexander, whose only noteable release is Green Street Hooligans (which is a good movie, but not something that screams "let her do an action film"), but she's a former kickboxer so she might pull it off. The script is by the same guys who did Iron Man, so... maybe this one will surprise us all.
hockeyboy
05-31-2008, 12:29 PM
That guy Dominic West is a good actor. Punisher 2 has got to be better than Ghost Rider or Daredevil.
kuntasensei
05-31-2008, 02:55 PM
Ghost Rider wasn't awful, but Nicolas Cage's ham-fisted acting kinda' reeked. The director's cut release of Daredevil was actually much better than the theatrical, and at least the movie had some damn good audio design.
Still, movies like Iron Man and Batman Begins have set the bar SO much higher now. We'll see if The Dark Knight, The Incredible Hulk and Punisher: War Zone can live up to that level of quality.

Marvel has their own studio now and they are taking control of their characters. As opposed
to having to compromise with other studios. Hopefully this will lead to more 'Iron Man' and less 'Fantastic Four'
and 'Daredevil'.
Because of this change I have hope for the Hulk. The last one was dreadful. Even my kid hated it, and he's
not that hard to impress.
I don't know about the Punisher 2. That really
needs to be a rated R adult action movie to pull it off.

I would agree with the Toby McGuire/Spiderman comments.......a little too nerdy but not all that bad!
Christian Bale has been my favorite batman by far!!!!! BAR NONE! He just nails his role and I think Ledger's Joker is going to be amazing!
I agree with Jstas in that Ghost Rider was not that good, but i thought Cage did a good job on the role of Blaze!
As for the new hulk movie, I hope its better than the last one! I didn't even finish the last one!
(This next series I feel like I can speak on cause I have been reading the comics for years!)
As for X-Men i would say that it had good and bad casting jobs......Jackman did a decent job on wolverine's attitude and personality, but his build is just off! Wolverine is supposed to be short and built! not that tall! Cyclopes, Grey, X, Magneto, Nightcrawler, Rogue, iceman, and beast were all great for the most part! I didn't like how they made Storm! I think Berry was a good look for Storm, but she started to change the look and wouldn't let herself be in a role that was more background! She had to be Berry and be in the front or center of attention! Besides that and some weak important side story lines that they completely dropped i still enjoyed the movies!

Just finished watching it. I'm sure many of you won't be shocked when I say this movie was a let down for me. With all the hype, I expected it to rival Transformers. The movie was OK, but not great at all. The ironman suit was awesome, but the story was weak, inspite of great acting from Downey, Jr.
*****SPOILER ALERT******
The last fight scene was particularly weak. Ironman didn't defeat the bad guy. He had to get his "girlfriend" to do it. I guess they forgot to build a set of nutsacks into the ironman suit. To make matters worse, in the final scene this arrogant prick announces to the world that he's ironman. Why????
And dueling ironmen? C'mon. They could have been more creative. Oh. I forgot -- it's Hollywood. Can't expect too much creativity to come from that place.

Dude you don't like any movies, so ya it's no big surprise you didn't like this one. Why do you even bother watching movies?

I love that Transformers was the paradigm you were hoping to reach. LOL

Great movie....although I felt it was a little hot in the subwoofer area. I had to dial my sub settings down a bit...a bit overwhelming in my opinion.

Just got done watching Iron Man on Blu Ray and it sounded great but it wasn't as good as I hoped. Still a decent movie. Not enough action. I liked his house and cars.

Well, I finally got a HDMI cable for my FP. Iron Man Was the first movie I watched. My new Marantz upconverted it to 1080i. Wow what a picture. I thought the movie was really good and the SQ was great too. This movie has some serious BASS.:D
