Polk RTA 12B Tweeter fuses

I recently acquired a set of Polk RTA-12B speakers powered by a Hafler DH-500 amplifier/DH-110 preamplifier. I soon started blowing the .75 amp fuse for the tweeters and upped it to a 1.0 amp fuse. I am still blowing fuses at around 1200 on the volume (which is very loud). The Hafler has more than enough power/current for these speakers so I am wondering if there is a problem or if the Hafler has too much power. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Well those fuses are their to protect your tweeters. Clean power is much less likely to blow tweeters than dirty power. You can use a higher rated fuse, but you would risk blowing the tweeters. If you hear distortion at all you should turn it down. I hope this helps.

BTW if you blow your tweeters it would be a good excuse to get the new replacement tweeters with silk domes to replace the old ones:)

You should ease off the volume knob for now, use 1A250V fuses and order new polyswitches from Polk. The amplifier isn't too much for the speaker....you probably are. Sorry, no offense. Here's the contact information:

The fused 12's didn't have Poly switches in them. They could be implemented, but that would require modding the XO. I think keeping the fuses would be a good Idea. It might get a little tiresome to keep changing fuses, and may lead to some self discipline:p

Thats where I was looking, and none of the 5 schematics I looked at had both a Poly switch, and a fuse.

I wouldn't recommend he get the new silk dome tweeters till he solves the problem with the blown fuses.. or else he runs the risk of blowing the new tweeters :eek:

Thanks for all the input. I have been getting a little carried away with the volume but this is the best system I have ever owned and it sounds fantastic at high volume. My wife is complaining that she has to straighten the pictures in the house after one of my high volume sessions. Guess I'll back off and keep fuses on hand.
