Curious what you would vote as the best album of the 21st Century and why.

My vote goes to Radiohead's Kid A, which I view as a groundbreaking work not only for the band itself, but for the whole industry. It bridged the popular gap from the alt rock era of the 90's to a more modern, electronic style. Also, despite its relative denseness, it was well received by both critics and the public (although it did alienate many existing fans).

Let's hear yours!

For me it would have to be Porcupine Tree's "In Absentia".

I'm not good at writing reviews with all sorts of descriptive adjectives, so I'll just leave it at this: any fan of music deserves to give listen. It's powerful, yet delicate. Every track is memorable and the production is astounding.

The fact that it comes in 5.1 DVD-A version makes it even that much sweeter to listen to.

The Flaming Lips Soft Bulletin. Beautifully crafted and unique on so many levels.

Arcade Fire: Neon Bible.

Just a brilliant work of art. It's different and clever and just a revelation to behold.

That would be a strong second for me. And first on certain days. Darla... I really, really hope you get a chance to see 'em live. Quite possibly the best show I've ever attended. I could try to describe it, but would never be able to do it justice.

I would love to. Funeral is a close second for me.

Yeah, I'd agree. I saw them on their Neon Bible tour and it was amazing. Everybody I talked to was blown away. The Friday night show was so goood I scalped tickets for Sun night too...just as good the second time.

All That You Can't Leave Behind - U2

This album brings back alot of the parts of the groups previous albums and brings them together in this disc. "Beautiful Day" as the first single was just a great choice to get the ball rolling on this modern classic.

Thanks phuz for showing me the error of my ways.

I'll stay away from the obvious classic rock masterpieces.

Since I would change my favorite depending on my mood, I will say this week it is

Smashing Pumpkin's "Siamese Dream."

This album just flat out kicks ass. It lifts my emotion when I listen.

Other great choices:

Garbage - Garbage
STP - Stone Temple Pilots
GnR - Appetite for Destruction

Wrong century.

Smile 2004 by Brian Wilson. It's a bit of a cheat since Brian wrote Smile in
66-67 but since it was finally relesed this century, it gets by vote. It's still a mindblowing piece of music. I was lucky enough to hear it live and it was
incredible!

I've got two, which each sound the best depending on what sort of mood I'm in:

Elliot Smith's Figure Eight
Spoon's Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

Great picks! I like Kill the Moonlight better, but Ga Ga is damn good too. I've never heard Figure Eight but love XO and Either/Or. I'll have to check it out.

The best album of the 21st century is undoubtedly something not yet produced ... probably something not even thought of yet ...

So far I would say that my choice also would win the finest recording quality award:
"Morph The Cat" by Donald Fagan

Coldplay Viva La Vida I can sit and listen to the cd all day long. It has a great mix of music and musical instruments.

What about Strokes Is This It? Every indie album after that sounded just like it.

I'd probably agree with In Absentia by Porcupine Tree, but Absolution by Muse comes in a close second...

I love Radiohead, but OK Computer is my favorite effort of theirs.
