Hey guys,
So now that the baby's here, I'd like to get some tunes in the bedroom. But of course my budget is extremely limited...
I've been watching the forums and Craigslist, and just found a pair of Monitor 10s for $40 that are in very good shape. Is this a good deal? Are the speakers decent? I don't have any experience with Polks older than the RT line.

Thanks!

That's a very good price for 10's. I think they normally sell for about $150. Of course if they don't work or are beat up then it's not as good of a deal.

I find the monitor 10's not the most accurate nor best imaging of the polk speakers - but I own a pair due to the fact I find them hugely fun to listen to.

If sitting in a chair leaning forward trying to hear the last bit of detail on the recording is what you are into, they may not be the best choice for you, but if you want to crank it a little and just enjoy the music - maybe even get up and dance - they are a dream....

My personal favorite of the monitor line for that reason. (Oh, and I really like the SL2500 tweeter)

Michael

(and yes, it is a good deal at that price)

Thanks for the input Michael.

Whether they end up on the sides or on top of my monstrously wide dresser, the imaging is going to be off. If I wanted to be a critical listener, I have the space in the basement. But I'll be atop my extra tall bed just laying back to enjoy some tunes. (since I seem to spend a majority of my time in that room anyway)

I'm excited. It's not going to be a reference system or anything, but it'll be the first gear I've had in nearly 6 months to enjoy music.
