Looking for a budget integrated amp/source for bedroom. With the baby here, my finances are extremely limited. But I've found some decent Polk speakers locally for $40, and am hoping to pair it with some decent equipment.
I have a max budget of maybe $500 for both player and amp. But I'll happily buy some stuff for far cheaper than that if it will get the job done.
Who's gonna hook a new daddy up?

Sorry, should specify that I'd like an Integrated amp for space's sake (going to be on top the dresser)

Will a receiver work for you or do you prefer an integrated amp?

I'd prefer a minimalist approach.

It doesn't get much simpler than this:
NAD L54 (http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?miscrcvr&1214768241)
DVD/CD/Integrated
or the surround-capable big bro for less coin:
NAD L73 (http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/clt.pl?miscrcvr&1211736769)
They are both NAD so they should be reliable and decent sounding. They max your budget, but it doesn't get any simpler.

Here you go. These make excellent CD players. They have the excellent Burr Brown 1755 DAC and they are quite inexpensive. Link to Polk Flea Market Ad (http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68300)

Call me fickle, but the load time once I power up the Toshibas drives me absolutely nuts. I appreciate the help though! And I-Sig, I do like that Nad all-in-one. I'll have to give it some thought.

Look for a Harman Kardon 3480 / 3485. You can find new ones below $200 from time to time, and they're all you'd need for a 2-channel setup (good looking, phono, remote, 120wpc with high current). Add a budget player (Oppo, Pioneer Elite, Denon) in the $50 - $200 range, and you're all set! If you are planning to watch movies and play music on this system and can find a Pioneer Elite 59avi for around/under $200, they are EXCELLENT for movies and music.
I had one for about two years, and it was one of my favorites.

Andy,
I like your ideas. What about the Elite DV-45A? I've found one for $100...

That's a good one as well. It doesn't upconvert like the 59avi, but is still a pretty decent video player, and a very good audio player.
$100 sounds about right for it. Denon 2200 is similar in price, quality, etc.

I really only need it for audio anyway... I don't think we'll be getting a tv for the bedroom anytime in the near future.
